Middle East Conflict | Netanyahu orders strikes on Gaza (p1161)

Just out of interest, which rules that apply to state actors would not apply to a non-state actor?

Just about all of them. Israel has to declare war on the Authority that is HAMAS and thus declare war on all the Palestinian people and territory for what the Israeli spokesman to be considered legitimate.
Like the UK the State of Israel does not recognise the legitimacy of HAMAS the terrorist organisation. One of the reasons they can't be applied to a terror organisation there is no stopping New-HAMAS and Continuity-HAMAS springing up this coming weekend and international law doesn't work like whack-a-mole.
Its for that reason that terrorists when caught are charged under domestic laws not things like the Geneva Convention ( think the Troubles ) - its just the easiest way to deal with it.

All they have done is retreated South, and left a few fighters in the north, it's a sensible military tactic, plus there are not that many IDF on the ground, Israel is doing their job for them, demonizing itself in the eyes of the world make no bones about it in order to achieve their objectives they are going to have to put lots of boots on the ground, and that is exactly what they are waiting for, this has been planned for a long time, eyewitness accounts from IDF soldiers are that they haven't really seen any Hamas considering that they have over 30,000 fighters it's quite obvious what has happened

Only theees.

Are you sure? In a civil war you have a state actor and a non-state actor, but both have to comply with IHL, I think. Any actor in an armed conflict does. I may be wrong, of course. It wouldn't be the first time.

:)

Having looked at the Geneva Convention etc thats the way I would understand it.

What do you do say to the HAMAS state apparatus "you are not obeying International Law" and wait for them to say "we are the Govt we do not recognise nor have anything to do with the terror fighters" - how do you prove what is what in that situation?

And on top of all that, they have achieved their geo-political aims, or at least those of their sponsors. They have stopped Israeli reconciliation with Arab nations, they have championed their, and Iran's, cause against Israel in the region, they have drawn Israel into a response that has terrible optics (and not just in the region) with an unachievable aim, and they have made the US give unwavering support to a right-wing leader in what is becoming a very unpopular "war". In addition, they may just have given Netanyahu enough rope to hang himself.

They’re not just going to randomly storm a hospital for a laugh. This isn't Russia we're talking about.

If terrorists weren't using a fucking HOSPITAL as a shield then the army wouldn't have to go anywhere near it.

This is exactly the sort of behaviour why Hamas need to be exterminated.
How many innocent civilians have Russia killed in Ukraine?

at last report 27k casualties. but that doesn't consider the fact that Russia has systematically killed in the areas they hold creating mass graves and portable crematorium units etc that wont be counted yet.

BBC news last night. They had this Graph up then went into detail about only 300 children being killed in The Ukraine Russia war.

Seems utterly implausible. Nearly two years of conflict across a country two and a half times the size of the UK where there artillery has been constantly deployed in urban areas and only 300 children have died. Simply doesn’t add up.

In the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, they went on for years so the monthly average will seem low if it is using like 70 months for Afghan but 1 or 2 months for Gaza? . Is there more to this graph?

Tbh I thought it would of been in the thousands but apparently not. I guess children in the Ukraine had an easier escape route whereas the one's in Gaza have/had nowhere to go. Being such a built up area escalates the death count too.
