PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

It's a disgraceful policy from the PL, not that we should be surprised, justice doesn't feature highly in their priorities.
**BREAKING NEWS**

The Premier League are claiming the 10 point deduction is because Everton were £19.5m over the allowed profit & sustainability limit over a three year rolling period.

Everton are claiming they were only £9.5m over the limit, so the 10 point reduction is unfair & disproportionate.

Everton have just confirmed that the majority of these losses came about because of COVID, & they thought the PL were giving EVERY team dispensations to get through the pandemic!

The more I hear of this, the more it sounds like a knee-jerk reaction from the PL in response to the confirmation of an independent regulator for football.

A 10 point reduction for at worst being £20m over the FFP limit during the worst global pandemic in over 100 years, sounds plainly ridiculous.

The PL aren't looking after their members here, they're fighting for regulatory survival & control over their cash cow, so have tried to smash a peanut with a sledgehammer to prove an independent regulator is unnecessary.

Perhaps true, but in any event, the cases of other clubs are immaterial to their own. It suggests to me that, ludicrous though the rules are, they've knowingly broken them and are bang to rights.

When you think about it, if City were to be exonerated before Everton's appeal is heard, I cannot imagine any lawyer worth his salt submitting in their appeal bundle "City got off, so this is precedent for us receiving a lighter punishment".
I suspect that they believe that a 10 point deduction for a £20m breach is excessive punishment. So, if say Chelsea (or anyone else) breached by a similar amount they wouldn't expect them to get zero points deduction and a small fine

If we're cleared then this is good news for us, as it shows that penalties will be served if there is wrongdoing so no one can claim we've just argued our way out of it.
If we're cleared then we'll have bribed our way out of it. Why bribe the Premier League not to bring charges in the first place when you can just let them bring charges, spend a truckload of money on lawyers and bribe the independent panel instead?

City and Everton's cases couldn't be more different, both in terms of the charge which Everton admitted to, and the speed of a verdict.

Rivals want to associate the two, but they are far removed.

If anything, I am even more hopeful now that the Premier League will be cut off at the knees before we ever get to the hearing.

Just with regards to your last paragraph, could you please explain the thinking behind your optimism? Please don't take that as a rhetorical dig, I'm just curious as to why this makes you more hopeful.

The opposite will happen. You forget when we are cleared no one will decide to read or educate themselves on it. We are guilty via peoples skewed bias to their clubs. I will get shot for this comment be we offer to much to the PL for the worst case scenarios.

Thankfully least we should have Everton and Newcastle in our corner these days.

Hope we make a mockery of the PL and all the warped stupid journalists when we win our case.

What’s interesting is the media appeared to know what penalty Everton were getting weeks ago. Albeit it was touted as a slightly higher total I.e. 12 points. Objectively, Everton and now Chelsea have owned up to wrong doing, in Everton’s case it’s the punishment that is being contested not the offence. Also the immediate deduction seems like they are setting the ground. i would be very surprised if Everton don’t get the points deduction reduced to say five points which will probably make little difference come the end of the season. Of course what about City? The obvious response from the media. I have no idea what stage our case is at. But, it wouldnt surprise me if things go very quiet, then we get hit with a very big points deduction towards the end of the season with immediate effect, thus making sure someone else wins the title and any appeal would take that long no panel would want to reach a conclusion that then takes the trophy from another club.

We're probably getting relegated, same with Chelsea in my opinion.

The PL will want "their" league back to how it was in the 90's early 00's.
