US Politics Thread

Had dinner just before Xmas with a guy who is a long-time friend and colleague of my partner, she’s known him for years. He’s the nicest guy you could ever wish to meet, insanely intelligent and a is a Senior Vice President at one of the top 30 companies that make up the Dow Jones Industrial Average. His entire job and career, which he’s done very, very well at, involves a high level of critical/ systems thinking and being able to successfully connect the dots from disparate data-sets and scenarios. His political beliefs are absolutely insane though, when he gets on to the subject, he sounds no better than the yokel in the video upthread. It really is bizarre.

This explains a lot. If you look at the January 6th rioters, you will notice many are small business owners who you would think have too much to lose. Yet they all got dragged by Trump’s words…

I think a level of stupidity is certainly required to properly fall for a cult leader however it doesn’t mean that very intelligent, usually corrupt, people won’t support one. However they will be doing it to further their own selfish ends and will believe that the demagoguery of the leader will have a positive effect on their fortunes. The majority are fucking idiots though and the minority non-stupid ones are the ones that are the biggest enablers because of their influence in media and big business.
Henning Wehn used to come on for the second half of his show with marching music and get everyone clapping along, then say it was a Nazi tune and ask "Now do you see how easy it is to get caught along?"

That’s really clever

Trump is facing punitive damages. Same issues that just did for Rudy. Assuming he doesn't get immunity via the supreme court he is going to face a jury awarding damages. And he's never stopped defaming her so chance of winning in court seem small.

That is trumps worst nightmare. He'd rather go to prison than pay off the woman he raped.

The perfect VP for Trump.
No way in the world. She's disparaged him. It will only be lickspittle loyalists who are dumber than bricks and absolutely 100% committed to towing his line as Cult Leader . . . especially after Pence "betrayed" him. Like, say, Elise Stefanik.

She's the same price with the bookies to be his VP as Tucker Carlson is.
I can't see it. Trump's first term had all sorts of moderates (GOP moderates!) such as Pence in position that all abandoned ship post election defeat. He was left to the loonies who came up with Jan 6th. These people have convinced Trump that only hardcore election deniers can be trusted and anyone else is Rino.

But Biden is the old fart who's senile...
Both can be correct the poll numbers right now show both candidates are extremely unpopular. Think majority can agree politics needs a shakeup, shouldn't be able to run if you're over 70 IMO & term limits would be a good start to crack down on insider trading.
