But theres no gaurantee that players recover from injuries smoothly. Pep alluded to this re KDB..he def needs cotton wool wrapping..easy to get another hamstring injury at his age...he is not a spritely build. I think we are too thin as a squad and too weak at the back for a run thats required. Hope im wrong but...5 points to just catch up! Ok game in hand but...i think its a step too far..consolidate a top 4 slot and go for UCL would be my realistic aim if i was Pep.

I'm glad you're not Pep, top 4 and going for the CL when we're 2pts off top if we win our game in hand and still have Liverpool to play! Blimey. Have you seen us in previous seasons? We've been in far worse spots. The treble came from nowhere last season. Ideally we'd have started the season with a similar side to the CL/FA Cup final team with a choice between Walker/Akanji, Stones stepping up and Kovacic replacing Gundo. But we've not had the opportunity to do so with De Bruyne injured, Stones missing several games, Bernardo, Grealish, Haaland all having spells out and Rodri getting suspended twice.

Keep the faith, things will click. They're having two weeks nearly in the sun training with Pep. This is the time he'll be ironing out tactical issues and nailing things ready for the crunch time. We might be a bit sluggish on our return as we find our rhythm again but I'm confident we'll see a return to our dominant best and we'll blow the opposition away.

Why do we need to win there? Do you honestly think that's the only game that them lot could drop points in...

We can't afford to get beat, but leagues aren't won or lost in one game

It will depend if we are ahead of them or behind if we 2 points and we lose it will be harder to win the league with only few games left.

I have lots of faith in City, a lot less in PIGMOB, 3 mins injury time at SJP being just one of the many ways they work against us, unfortunately. Also CL takes a lot more out of us than Europa does for them. Good draws in QF and SF of CL (if we get there) will help us loads, they can take it much easier in Europa

fixture to fixture we are still significantly worse than last year, can improved big time of course if we beat Brentford 2 times this season. or get wins at Anfield, White Hart Lane etc.

really hope all those stupidly thrown away important points wont come back to bit us in the arse, Palace at home, Spurs at home, Chelsea away etc.

we do need to be more clinical and especially better at defending. conceding comical goals from first on target shots from opponent almost each game, fuck this has to stop.

we also do need as much favours from other teams stopping Arse and Pool as much as they can instead of lubing themselves up for them like past weekend.

I agree we can't afford to get beat no matter what the points difference is.

But just to be clear, there will still be 10 games to play once we've been to Anfield, and they've got a tricky last handful of games.

It doesn’t work like that. Palace home, Wolves away being examples. Useful to see it though, thanks

Everton are 6th in the away table and we have to play them at home, isn’t that a tough game?

3 minutes was fine in the end. In fact, we'd be in a better position if we'd had no injury time in games - Spurs, Chelsea, Palace!

We've had to face dodgy calls in previous seasons and managed to win it still.

The CL can take it out of us, but Liverpool will play the big guns as the Europa League advances. They've already lost games when making wholesale changes. They'll want to win it.

I still feel we've got plenty of gears to go through. Liverpool will challenge us. They don't lose at home and they've shown an ability to win when playing badly or with players missing. But we're the best team in the world for a reason.

We can afford to get beat, provided that the points difference after the game at Anfield is within 5 pts. If we are only 5 pts off the top after Anfield, I will back us to win the title from there. When people say they can't see Liverpool dropping points, they are in the grip of the recency bias. I can see Liverpool drawing/losing 4 from the last 10 games.

It will be close, though. Wouldn't be surprised if we won the title by 1 point again.

I just think beating us could really give them the lift they need to just plough through the remaining games.

I'm not convinced they really think they can win it, but beating us there and it being a 5 point lead could give them the belief.

I'm with you though, I don't envisage them even winning all their games prior to meeting us, so if we win all of ours, we'd go there top of the league (or with a game in hand to do so).

One thing worth considering about the dippers game in the big picture of the title race is that if they get through to the Carabao Cup final, they will very likely have (unless their game scheduled for the weekend of the final gets rearranged quickly) a game in hand over us when we meet at Anfield which puts a slightly different dynamic on what points gap we could be looking at.

It’s no more or less important than Burnley at home, 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw.
Every game is big but a game against your main rivals is of added significance for no other reason than you have a direct influence on what happens to them. A win means they drop three points in addition to us gaining those points.

Yep Anfield it out biggest game we have to win

It's too early to tell whether we need a result at Anfield.

If we go there top of the league, which is not unlikely to happen as they have more difficult games in that period and we'll probably play more games than them anyway (they'll have a game in hand due to the league cup final), a draw would be a perfectly good result.

The idea that we need to win there is based mostly on overrating Liverpool, i.e., on the expectation that they are a super team that's going to win virtually all games. It's not impossible to happen, but it's not likely either. 85 pts win the league. Last season, I was saying that 88 pts would win the league even when Arsenal were on course to 100 pts. Might be wrong, but I think 85 pts win the league this season. Liverpool are likely to drop more points than some on here expect.

Also, Arsenal are not out of it yet. IF they beat Liverpool in 2 weeks, they'll be there too.

You can never be sure how crucial any given game turns out to be but the trip to see the dippers might decide matters. It is fairly clear in my mind that the two games against Arsenal, which we won convincingly, had a huge impact on the destination of the title last season.

Unless our defence tightens up like it did last season we will not win the league or probably either of the cups as well.

Look at our record at Anfield and because we only drew at home we have to win there for me to put a marker down for the last few games
I take your point but I don’t think stuff like that really matters.

They put a marker down when they beat us in the 2014 run in yet a few games later “we’re all singing Edin Dzeko “
