I said a long time ago that The Rock was the ONE person I had a lot of confidence in reunifying the nation, and I wasn't kidding then, nor now. He has no interest but he is above the fray, intelligent, has charisma, is a Beltway outsider, isn't compromised, is a good "poster man" for America's self-conception, isn't old, isn't "white", and has proven himself reasonably neutral politically. He also has absolutely zero experience, but you've gotta start somewhere . . .

Not only that - Kemp cannot pardon Trump unilaterally. Georgia is one of 9 states where pardons are not determined by the Governor but by a separate Board of Pardons made up of procedural specialists. He has no individual power of pardon.

If Trump gets convicted in Georgia he will stay convicted, short of some kind of civil war taking place.

It's fairly easy for Hayley to riggle out of this as right now no one has seen the evidence against Trump.

So assume he is convicted in October on a federal charge and jailed for 10 years. The GOP goes in to panic. They have to put forward a candidate. It's Hayley or Trump's VP (Marjorie Taylor-Greene), they are tanking in the opinion polls as MTG has gone full nuts and is calling for war and busting out Trump.

The party reconvene and pick Hayley as they face oblivion. At this point, all bets are off.
 
Not sure why people think his support will be diminished if he's jailed. What he will lose is institutional funding, which will hurt. He'll conduct the campaign via cult-devotee/acolyte proxy, of which there are plenty to choose. But as I don't think he's winning anyhow, I think the result is the same.

I also think a lot of people here are underestimating the backlash against him regardless that will lead folks to pull the lever for Biden, despite his "drawbacks".

I think you speak for many, but, democracy has to be for all - no matter how inadequate you may feel some of your local brothers and sisters may appear. Their vote has to be worth the same as yours, otherwise, it ain't democracy.
