it's an incredible fight-back and at one point the game was over for England and the knives were out and questions from me and others about our bottle and mentality, Look this could be just a bad day at the office for India and they may have not fully respected us after the first 2 days and thought this will be an easy win,

But today all the credit goes to England and Pope and Hartley, We put India under so much pressure on their own patch and they coughed up and bottled it.

I told you I did fancy England doing something in this test before the game, then I thought, I put my foot in my mouth after the first 2 days, hahahah

Outstanding win due to two heroic performances from Pope and Hartley.
I really didn’t expect anything but fair dogs.
And the Convicts lost :-) happy days.

Took a morning off from the internet, and when I switched it on at about 2 p.m., I didn't quite believe what I was reading as the lead story on the BBC site. Utterly gobsmacked! Early yesterday, for me, it was really a question of whether India were going to win by ten or by nine wickets. Already, I regarded it as something of a triumph to merely make them bat again.
That said, this incredible victory should not paper over the cracks. The cavalry, in the form of Ollie Pope, came to the rescue, backed up by some good tailending. And of course this extraordinary performance by the rookie spinner. That has somewhat screened big weaknesses elsewhere.
If England can consolidate in the second test, so much the better. I'll believe it when I see it. Till then, let's just enjoy this. Victories of any kind in India are rarer than hen's teeth…

An amazing day for test cricket all round. What an advert. Far better than 20 overs of home run derbies.

It's the ultimate format of the game. I totally understand the appeal of the ODI and T20 formats; a result in one day, and lots of crash, bang, wallop" stuff*. The broadcasters must love it. And judging by the attendances that test matches are getting in most parts of the world (even the GABBA was sparsely populated), it could be argued that test cricket is dying. But, for me, an exciting 5 (or even 4 or 3) day test match can't be bettered.


*That Hundred bullshit can fuck off, though.
