Kalvin Phillips

We clearly want to sell him but an option to buy is not much use to the selling club as it is not an obligation and cannot be renegotiated upwards but can always be negotiated downwards.

It incentives them to play him if they know they can get him at a fixed price. I wouldn't say in those circumstances that it is not in the parent club's interest.

They are paying a significant fee for his loan I think they have incentive enough to play him. Might be true for young players but not for established players with significant expenses.

But that’s the point. An obligation means the loan then turns permanent at the end of the period. If the club that loans the player doesn’t want to be forced to buy the player there is no obligation and instead an option is included meaning the club they are on loan at can choose not to buy. When there is “ no option to buy” that is normally inserted by the club to which the player belongs particularly when they are a promising player that just needs experience like MacAtee. It usually means the owning club is making it clear that the player returns to them at the end of the period.

I still think the BBC have reported it incorrectly butI could be wrong.

Their biggest incentive will be to tempt him to sign permanently with them.

We all saw Pep being patient and giving the time and minutes every squad member.
Kalvin didn’t get it. For me he is more Pep’s failure than his own. But let’s move on.
All the best Kalvin!
You can only coach someone to a point, clearly Kalvin was not taking on what was been asked, maybe not smart enough or simply not at the technical level to perform.

We obviously fucked up our due diligence on Mr Phillips.
Good luck to him at West Ham, i hope he gets his career back on track

Other than being a bit overweight, and that’s what it was, what else has he done?
Exactly. Walker has done worse things than Phillips, but he is a first team regular so it's okay... not suggesting he deserves any bad sentiment either, just a comparison

I was wondering the same thing.
Pep obviously sanction the purchase....I wonder exactly what it was that made him point blank refuse to play him.

I mean, we've had some poor signings even under pep but I've never seen them given basically no game time at all and frozen out for seemingly no reason as Kalvin was.

This is true. Mendy and Mangala might have done slightly more on field than Phillips, but they cost us £90m whilst recouping nothing.

Jo too was dreadful, perpetually cup tied and also left on a free.
Owen Hargreaves, Patrick Roberts, Marlos Moreno, Glauber Berti, Stuart Taylor, David Gonzalez, Gai Assulin, Teerasil Dangda, Suree Sukha, Kiatprawut Saiwaeo

Combined transfer fee of about 30p.
Moreno was £5million, Roberts was £7.5million, both left on free's having never featured. Hargreaves would have been on a high wage just to keep our medical staff busy for a year.

The original line was worst signing, all worse signings than Mangala or Phillips who both played and contributed to trophies.

I’m not arsed enough to argue.

Phillips, Mangala and Mendy‘s transfer fees cover about 50 of the random signings that didn’t work.

None of them had any real impact on us winning anything.

Man City's record on buying English players is horrific at best - that's including Stones and Carson!

Really? Over what time period are you talking here "Bruno"?

Lescott, Hart, Barry, Milner were all good signings from a previous era. I'd argue Fabian Delph given his low transfer fee did a good job for us as well, despite injury issues.

Walker, Sterling, Grealish, Stones of the current era have all done well in blue. That's not forgetting homegrown Foden and Rico Lewis, who are at different stages of their development but both will be part of our squad for a long time.

Naming Carson is harsh. I'd say he's fulfilled exactly the role the club purchased him for - he wasn't signed to push Ederson was he, let's be honest.

It was a very poor attempt at wumming with no research at all. If he has to name Carson, a 3rd choice back up goalie, who I think doubles up as a goalkeeping coach and by all accounts extremely popular and looked up to, then you know they have no argument.
