Kalvin Phillips

I meant in terms of his City career.

Many a player of 'average' talent hove gone on to have decent careers at top level clubs.
In our shirt he was shocking, simply shocking, he looked way off our levels and he knew it from day one.

Early days at West Ham, but his two cameos have been terrible, a player at the crossroads of his career.

And unless he wakes up and starts performing , a player I could see going over to Saudi in the summer for an even bigger bag of cash than he is already getting.

I wonder if that was one of the issues. Got his big move and thought he'd made it, rather than thinking that now he has to kick on.
100% for me, and for a player "desperate" to play, he attitude already at West Ham already is questionable.

Instead of having banter with the rag crowd over his waistline, would a top, elite player with so much to prove want to leave his mark on the pitch?

His confidence will get better. Imagine what it does to a person, psychologically, to be publicly battered for not making the grade following such a high profile move? The lad always looks happy but I’m sure it must have taken its toll.

A run in the team at the hammers and it will come back gradually.

Never thought we’d see an immediate improvement in his play, nor did I think we’d ever get anywhere near what we paid for him. If the current hope is to use him as a makeweight in some deal for Paquet (once cleared), then the scales aren’t budging in our favour as yet.

A run? LOL Now that would be a first step if he finally started running!

I have seen how Zinny was fighting for his place when he knew the club would like to sell him. Extra shifts, first and last on the training pitch and statements that have shown his fighting spirit. And he DID improve and got his well deserved transfer to Arsenal later.

What has Phillips done after refusing to leave last summer? How did he convince Pep he can rely on him? Where was his "fight for his place"?
I have seen nowt. Have I missed anything?

A transfer last summer would have probably helped to sign Rice or Paqueta. Now his value fell off a cliff. That's why I don't have much sympathy for the lad who only does one thing, smile.

He has ignored reality and that's definitely causing trouble in your life.

If he can't handle pressure he isn't right in this tough business. First thing I would recommend is a team of top psychologists. He surely can afford 10k a week to find his confidence and the peace for his humbled soul that is hidden behind a permanent sweet smile - a symbol for harmony, not for a proper fight. IMO

"decent"

Kalvin summed up perfectly for me.
He seems a decent chap on and off the pitch. Whilst his performances haven't been 'stellar' on the pitch I honestly think he could kick on if he got the right run of games. He's never going to be a Rodri or a Foden type player, but I still think he can do a job at the top level for a PL team.

You’d pick Ross Barkley over him on current form.
I agree, on current form, Ross Barkley looks very impressive.
But doubt if Southgate will pick him ?
If he was bold enough to pick Barkley, where would Southgate play him ?
Southgate likes to have 2 holding midfielders. One will obviously be Declan Rice, but not sure if Barkley could be the other ?
Didn't Southgate go to the Ajax game on the weekend to see Henderson ?
Unfortunately, think "Hendo" will get the jersey...

Terrible luck?

The dude lives a life most can only fantasise about, cruises around in a Roller and is on 170k a week for the next 5 years guaranteed and all for having average talent, jesus wept.

He looks like a man going through the motions, amazed he has hit the jackpot.
Hard to argue with this
