Bit like the opening period of a hardcore BDSM session: domination but very little penetration.

Despite what Inner Party Chairman Arteta may have said, it is obvious that they didn’t setup to go for it. They’re playing like Sheffield United in a defence v attack drill, so chances are going to be at a premium for both sides.

Even so, they’ve had the better of the chances, as we have been a little sloppy, especially on the left side, leading to most of their forays in to our third.

If we can clean that up, and look to involve Phil and Erling a bit more, I think we could make the domination count in the second half. Their press is uncharacteristically terrible so far and they may get more desperate to close as the minutes tick away.

We need to be careful about how much Lewis tucks in and Gvardiol advances forward, though, as they are setting pocket press traps for Rodri, which have lead to two counters, one that nearly saw us concede. It looks like Odegaard’s role is to trigger that targeted press when Rodri drives forward and get behind him to receive the ball if Arsenal are able to nick it. With Gvardiol forward and Lewis tucked, they then have Saka and Jesus bomb in to the vacated space, and split our centre backs. Pep has undoubtedly noticed that pattern of play and will make the necessary adjustments.

Still think we win this.

Up the blues!
First para you had me, then you started talking football crap :-)

That's been against the big sides this season were we've been far too predictable.

Having said that I'd happily take a poor performance and a scruffy win ;)
100%, but even at the scruffy stuff in terms of goals we are poor, always trying to score worldies

Spending a week with Waistcoat has done Foden , he needs to forget anything he has been told for the last week and get back into Pep mode , he is non existent today , Bernardo our only bright spark , maybe Doku or Grealish can bring something different , need to break down boring , boring Arsenal.

We have not looked the team that used to rip teams apart for some time, far too one paced and predictable
Agreed- there have been a handful of situations where they lost the ball in their end and we've not pounced like we used to.

I think the team and the manner in which we conduct ourselves this next half will tell us all what to expect as an outcome. Liverpool are not going to finish the season without a few dropped points especially if we lay down the marker this coming half and breathe down their scouse necks.

Great detailed analysis, obviously spoken with experience, particularly the opening sentence…:)

Tight game, we definitely lack a spark but then so do Arsenal really. A draw is about the right result at this stage, we haven’t created much but neither have they.

Could go either way or be 0-0 draw, need more second half for sure. C’mon City!!!
