Lucas Paquetá

Pep and Txiki have wanted Lucas for years now but we always had other areas that needed work first, this is Peps main target for a reason.

I hope so. He undoubtedly has ability, but when I've watched West Ham I've seen him taking risks on the ball in deep areas and I feel like he would drive Pep crazy. Seems possibly a bit too much of a free spirit, but I guess if he could adapt then we'd have a player.

cant really compare him trying to do everything at West Ham himself compared to who he would be playing with here though mate? I think he gets pissed off as his team mates currently just arent on his level?

Paqueta's currently playing for dog of war David Moyes. His Brazil performances are a better indicator of his abilities.

We also bought Phillips in between Guimaraes signing for Newcastle and Paqueta signing for West Ham. Somewhere along the line somebody dropped a rather expensive clanger.

Due diligence only goes so far. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Most of us were cool on Rodri during his first two seasons & would've snapped someone's hand off if offered our £63m back, because he was no Fernandinho.

However, Rodri became Rodri, & Philips was supposed to be our new Fernandinho. It's hasn't worked out, & we desperately need cover & competition for our most important player.

Perhaps Guimarães is that player or Neves? For me, Paqueta's a replacement for Gundog.

True mate but i was delighted with the Phillips signing to be honest as a backup for Rodri? Was great for Leeds that season in the premier league and possibly Englands best player in the Euro`s? Pep and Txiki would no doubt have trusted Bielsa`s opinion of Phillips?

It’s done isn’t it, bar the clubs agreeing a transfer fee. It would have been done last Summer if it wasn’t for the betting allegations.
Don't think we need to agree a fee this summer because his release clause kicks in.

All for bringing him on board, assuming the allegations are unfounded, though if he is Gundogan’s replacement, it begs why we bought Kovacic. After all, he was landed long before the clouds gathered over Paqueta.

i think kova was bought as an able debutant for rodri.

I had only seen him play for a rather sorry Leeds so never had much else to go on. I’d like to think that we are sufficiently independent of thought, however, not to rely on outside opinion alone. I guess the signings of Phillips and perhaps now Nunes have just made me more questioning, especially when other options were available. I guess it’s also made me appreciate just how good Rodri is. Just praying that the betting allegations are dropped early, because I’d like to enjoy watching Rodri for as long as possible, but for that to happen he’s going to need help.

Kovacic is a player Pep's liked for a long time. He missed out on him twice previously, so he jumped at the opportunity last summer.

As a Squad player, I've no issues with him, but we've become spoiled having top specialist operators as our main starters. Having lost Mahrez & Gundog, & with KDB & Grealish being out for extended periods, it was a big hit even for City.

Albeit we've got Kev & Jack back, we're still missing replacements for Mahrez & Gundog, & it's seriously affected the over all quality of our starting eleven & first choice substitutes.

There's a huge difference between being able to call upon Mahrez & Gundog, as opposed to Kovacic & Nunes, hence this season's struggles.

To illustrate this, ArseAnal have beaten us twice this season & drawn against us once, after years of being nowhere near.

And they had a good recruitment window. Plus Lego tends to play a settled team, which imo counts for a lot, plus he has a decent sized squad, plus they have been fortunate with injuries.

Pep needs to seriously rethink squad size, same players especially Rodri and Bernie are getting jiggered due to inadequate back ups available.

I honestly think this has been noted & will be dealt with in the summer. It's why I think City will take a punt on Paqueta regardless of the FA completing their betting investigation or not.

We could've had Lucas for a season already, & for me, the plus of having him would've outweighed the negative of the investigation hanging over him. His possible inclusion could be the difference between success & failure this season.

Imagine the difference of having Paqueta in those games where we played Akanji in midfield, as opposed to Kova earlier in the season, & Nunes throughout it, who were both sat on the bench. This tells us all we need to know imo.
