City's 2001/2 Division 1 Title Win 21/04/2002:

Didn’t we have Notts County away in the cup in the same day as 9-11?

We did. We were watching it in a pub in town, waiting for people to meet up.

Small problems in context maybe but we missed the last train home due to the extra time and ended up stuck on Sheffield station for hours waiting for the first one in the morning.

Pretty strange atmosphere at the game, as you’d probably expect.

They were happy times. I just associate that season with feelings of contentment about life in general. I remember the 3-0 at home to Birmingham the weekend following 9/11. The silence was impeccable and I can remember the stars and stripes bring draped from the top tier of the Kippax. It was a very moving occasion. I also loved the kit, the material was sublime.
Very poignant. And 9/11 feels like yesterday sometimes. And yet so much has changed since then. X

Always disappointed that we didn't hold a parade at the end of the season, it was the only promotion as champions and I thought thus is as good as it will ever get. Only City would have an Israeli and an Arab midfield parternership, but it absolutely worked. Last season I got to nearly every home game and many aways, got married in the September. My favourite season since 75 76 and until 2010 2011

My favourite game that season was Barnsley away on Halloween, it was 3-0 but could have been 8.

And thinking the last time I’d been to Barnsley away was a depressing defeat a couple of years earlier with Franny Lee doing interviews from a lounger in Barbados whilst we stood in that open away end in the sleet.

“I’d rather be in Barnsley than Barbados” was the chant that day. 6000 City if I remember right.

Classic season, all of our 3 strikers to score 20 plus goals, Huckerby being a third choice that!

Burnley at home dinner kick off always sticks in my memory, top of table clash and we leathered them

Once we'd got the wind in our sails there was a "lightness" in walking up to the ground that had too often been absent of late. No dread, no feelings of obligation/defiance, just looking forward with excitement to being well entertained. It was that feeling of a weight being lifted and a spring in our step that means, like many others, I look back on that season with huge fondness.

That season was like a foreshadowing of the Pep era. It was the first time I’d ever seen a City side cruise through a season as the best team by far - even though it was the second division.

I remember going to Wolves and winning and saying “Nobody will stop us”.
We didnt tend to win at Wolves in those days so it was a massive result for us.

I remember every single one of those games vividly. I also remember that we won a couple of games with ten men. I think it happened twice. One might have been Watford. Did Tiatto get a red? I might be mixing memories here. We also went away to Ipswich in the cup who were in the premier league and hammered them on live TV.

My favourite was wolves away where we won 2-0. They were challenging us too and we murdered them. Also that era I went to nearly all the away matches too and I think we got some big allocation. Was it Swindon and we got both ends?
Benarbia sent off early v Millwall at home and Tiatto v Norwich at home, taking it out on the Lucozade bottles IIRC.

Still one of my favourite ever seasons. Loved that squad, adored Benarbia so much. Would go as far as to say in his prime he would be a regular in this current side. Was the first time in my lifetime I ever saw us absolutely dominate a division (and at the time definitely thought it would be the last time). Remember us absolutely battering Newcastle in the cup only to lose to I think a Solano goal?

That daft as it sounds the Newcastle game was my favourite memory of that season remember watching it in a packed working mens club in Stalybridge loads of rags in with us as it was Saturday night and even they said it was the best game they’d seen all season so far.
I remember thinking if only someone would invest in us we’d become one of the best teams in the land if I recall there used to be rumours that Rick Wakeman was thinking of sinking millions into the club which probably got me dreaming on winning doubles trebles CLs World Club Cups …. Then for it to all end with TShed get up your late for work
