Who will make the England Euro 2024 squad? 23 26 man squad

[slightly different to the Southgate thread]

Some players in the running (long-list);

GKs: Pickford / Ramsdale / Pope / Johnstone / Trafford / Butland

DFs: Stones / Walker / Gomez / James / Shaw / Dunk / Alexander-Arnold / Branthwaite / Chilwell / Konsa / Colwill / Maguire / Trippier / Guehi / White / Dier / Tomori

MFs(D): Bellingham / Rice / Henderson / Gallagher / Mainoo / Ward-Prowse / R Lewis / Elliot
MFs(A): Foden / Grealish / Saka / Maddison / Bowen / Gordon / Palmer / Mount / Madueke

FWs: Kane / Toney / Watkins / Rashford / Solanke / Sterling / Eze / Olise

My picks in bold.
3 keepers, nobody risks 2 these days, right?
9 defenders including Alexander-Arnold as potential midfielder, Joe Gomez can play pretty much any position on the back line
11 mids, Palmer and Saka can play very high as auxiliary forwards
3 strikers (Solanke or Toney)

4-5-1

Maguire plays better for England, as it's slower football, but he's still shit. However centre-half is a bit barren especially as White has rejected call-up.

Not really arsed who goes but hope that we outperform under the waistcoat so he gets the rags job. Losing a penalty shootout to the Germans in the semi-final with Bellingham missing the crucial penalty will do.

Olise and Eze have made a late surge for inclusion, and i think Bowen, Henderson, Lewis and Solanke will be more hopeful with the expanded squad size.

The player at Palace who has made the most impressive late surge is Wharton.

Assume Olise still wants to play for France..

Wharton should be in there ahead of Mainoo, but won't be. We desperately need someone with that ability in the side. We have a back 4 that's not going to be particularly strong and, in Rice, someone who is incapable of running the game - so much so he has been relinquished of that role at Arsenal to be more box to box. If he plays the box to box role for England he needs someone alongside him to dictate things and Wharton's the best option, but will be seen as too raw and miss out.

I’d have Trippier and Ward-Prowse in purely for the set piece delivery and worldie free kicks …
That said, I’m not a great fan of international football so I don’t give too much of a fuck who gets picked :-)

As long as the rock solid spine is playing all will be good. Pickford. Greek harry. Hendo. Kane. The added bonus for those tight games will be that hammer lad that gets on here wearing his cut out George cross hat and eating his free Greggs pasty while watching the pens on a screen in ‘random London park’.

i’m trying to a squad on excel and struggling to actually name 26 players.

At the moment i have Gomes and Dier as reserve centre backs and am really struggling with midfielders.

There is no point playing an extra man in midfield in the henderson role as there isnt anyone. it would have to be Gallagher.

Might as well shove Bellingham and Foden up there with Grealish tucking in. Invert Stones if you can

Pickford
Walker Maguire Trippier (?)
Stones Rice
Saka Foden Bellingham Grealish
Kane

If you are chasing it on the counter Rashford comes on for Grealish - he plays well/tries for England. Palmer subs on for Saka when he hobbles off on 62 minutes.

ps id ditch Saka for Palmer and go full city but we all know that isnt happening.

+ Eze, Branthwaite & Elliott

Don't really give a shit who third choice keeper is. Southgate will probably pick about 8 of his usual favourites anyway.

Controversially, I wouldn't start Kane.

We are weak defensively so my approach would be to defend from the front aggressively and press the shit out of the opposition. Kane can't do it, so I'd play Watkins. We've got lots of goals across our midfield/wide options so I don't think it's an issue dropping him and I think we'd be better as a team.

It's who to play on the left. Saka is a RW option, but Palmer plays best there too. I like Gordon with his pace, but not sure he's at the required level just yet. Foden is the number 10.

Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw, Rice, Bellingham, Palmer, Foden, Saka, Watkins.
