My disdain for FPTP is well documented (by me) but there’s no denying its ability to wipe a sitting government out.

But for me, that doesn’t begin to mitigate its long-term damage to this country. Not even close.

Obviously not disagreeing on FPTP, but that’s still not quite as damaging as the fuckwits who control the media and pump out endless lies entirely for their own agenda.

Of course it’s a grift, covering all bases now that Trump has been found guilty. If he doesn’t get in he’ll be off to the US to chance his arm and if he does then he gets the MPs wage while doing fuck all for it, apart from getting a couple of minutes in the Commons to remind us of his bile.

Last time out Brexit was at genuine risk. If they had stood and split the vote enough Corbyn would have got in and the majority of Parliament would have demanded a 2nd ref and brexit would have died a slow death.

This time there is zero consequence for them if they annihilate the tories. Labour are in anyway.

Farage is an agitator. He will love this campaign. He will then be a terrible MP if he gets in.

Survation did some hypothetical polling (which is obviously very shaky, but apparently was a private contract aimed at persuading Farage to stand). Unfortunately it suggested Labour's vote in Clacton could actually go down slightly if Farage stands.

Bear in mind, Labour's vote has gone up quite a lot since the last election, and some of those will be the social conservatives/leavers that Boris appealed to, and that Farage is may be able to attract.

Should be the nail in the coffin for the Tories though, that 66 seat prediction could come down by 15-20.

As an optimist, I am hopeful that the conservatives being wiped off the floor in one general election shows Labour and everyone else that it can and will happen to them if they try to embrace fringe extremist ideologies.

I think extremisf ideologies is pushing things a little too far. I wouldn't class Corbyn or Farage like that.

Agree a Labour victory there would be a long shot but it would be funny as fuck if it happened. I think a Farage win is the most likely outcome bearing in mind it’s the only constituency that UKIP have ever won in an election.

Johnson Farage Starmer the list is endless really, I think you have to be power or money mad to want to get into the higher positions in politics. Corbyn was different in that he was a left wing agitator who never thought he would be in a position to lead his party.

He was a protester by nature and even though he was without balance I don't think he was there for any personal gain.
