Has Phil ever played long periods of a game on the left for us? I know he interchanges sometimes but seems to be central or right most of the time.
He's wank, gave the ball away loads.i know this isn't popular, but TAA does give us something different - there's not many players that have the range of passing he does, he can create and score and set pieces are a major factor in tournaments. I would stick with him in the centre midfield role where we lack options.
He shouldn't be. But this is southgate we're talking about. So what’s he doing in the pitch
He lost the ball under pressure numerous times, three of which lead to some of the few real decent chances Serbia created.i know this isn't popular, but TAA does give us something different - there's not many players that have the range of passing he does, he can create and score and set pieces are a major factor in tournaments. Bang on. Unfortunately most people that watch England know nothing about football. Not only that, but Foden was responsible for covering the LW/LM/LB area because Trippier has no pace and is defensively suspect. Having Arnold in midfield and Bellingham roaming around position-less didn’t help. Foden was by no mean at his best more generally, but he was not “anonymous” or “shite”. So many factors were conspiring to make a good performance very difficult. He was absolutely wasted in that role tonight and a standout performance was always unlikely under the constraints placed on him by Southgate (as has been the case many times). One of the reasons Bellingham can stand out is because he is given a free role and everyone else works to cover the issues that arise from it.
It’s just frustrating at times on here. So many have such a simplistic perspective on football, which is surprising coming from blues given Pep has been around for so many years. You would think their awareness and analysis would have become more sophisticated by now.
We haven't "worked him out" though. We've worked liverpool out (Except at anfield, generally). I'm not a fan of Arnold at all - I think pointing out his passing as a "liability" is a bit disengenous.Yes City. He can kick it long and can cross the ball and has pace but that is it.
You're on here so much you've basically got Stockholm syndromewon't hear it from me.
the boy is class and thought his work rate was good, won us important free kicks taking players on.
It's the opening game, one bloody match. the scrutiny on young players like him is a joke.

He (TAA) is a Beckham type. A good free kick or cross every now and again but everything else is largely average.I think it certain games it would work with him in there e.g teams that are happy to stand off so he has time and space to create but when a team isnt offering you need someone in there that can keep the ball moving five yard passes up the pitch, comfortable in position.
As much as I thought we were shite tonight I totally disagree and happy to put some money up for charityi think Denmark will beat us,infact il take it to the bookies
Against better oppostion his passing ability will be exposed a lot more. It is not being disengenous it is being honest. We haven't "worked him out" though. Germany had fun in their opening game.Mind-boggling how Southgate learns nothing. Get a goal then defend every fucking time. Mind numbing watching england. No point having all these good attacking players when they never touch the ball.
Fair enough, i've never thought that myself - he's bad in one on one situations, he's careless and i think generally not great a situational awareness. This is why i wouldn't have him in midfield - if you want to add passing to that list then who am i to argue.Against better oppostion his passing ability will be exposed a lot more. As much as I hate Beckham, he made things happen. Trent doesn’tHe (TAA) is a Beckham type. A good free kick or cross every now and again but everything else is largely average.
Bit harsh. Rice kept us a goal ahead with his interceptions on the edge of the box and Saka murdered their left back and set up the goal. He's unfit - got injured in training before Arsenal's last game so IMHO we'd have been better off playing Palmer there and bring Saka in later when he's recovered.A turgid display and clinging on to a 1-0 against a very average Serbia.
Trent isn't an elite midfielder, he's a reserve fullback.
Rice is an overrated lump who had zero impact on the game. Useless.
Bellingham, great goal followed by him striding around like a peacock to no effect for the rest of the game.
Foden, still on the beach. One of his worst performances of the season.
Saka... Why does the media love this lad? He's bang average. Jarrod Bowen did more in his first two minutes than 70 minutes of Saka.
Kane - Got even less service than Haaland does at City. May as well have stayed in the hotel.
Three points from a poor performance. Don't expect things to get easier, but at least 3rd place in the group should be safe.
