Paris 2024 Olympics Thread - 11th August (pg 430)

Phenomenal from the swimming relay lads, destroyed a world class field.
Simply superb. Having traipsed my son all over the North of England to gala’s when he was a competitive swimmer, I know what goes into getting to that level of excellence.

Those men are just outstanding.

The Paddies are now like the Rugby team -all Ireland. Not sure when that changed but he would have been ours years ago GB&NI.
(Can’t be arsed to look it up but someone will :-)
Don't understand it either
It is GB&NI in the Olympics but there seems to be exceptions.
Boxing, hockey and cricket it seems to be an all Ireland amalgamation. I"m guessing an athlete from NI can choose like McIlroy teaming with Lowrey in the golf.

In GAA, there are teams playing in the All Ireland from New York and London.

Yes they can choose to compete for GB or Ireland, one of them represents Ireland at the Olympics ( gymnastics) and N.Ireland at commonwealth games ..

It also creates some weird coverage on the BBC where I'm watching Ireland and wondering why they're being covered like they're a home nation, presumably for the benefit of Northern Irish viewers.

Triathlon is being unpredictable.
The currents in the Seine caused havoc, the bikes are playing skittles with each other on wet cobbled corners. 55 competitors and maybe 7-8 have crashed by the second lap of 7.

nice one! the Olympics website is a bit crap to navigate.

Looking forward to the Track & field events starting from tomorrow,

Excellent result there, she looked absolutely fucked and you could tell she didn't have it in her to breakaway as she kept looking over her shoulder. I think she was the quickest runner but after the other two events clearly didn't have enough. Alex Yee has an excellent chance of gold in the mens.

Such a bizarre sport that. What inspires people to do that? Is it just you're not great at running but walk like a twat?
The rules on cheating are also a farce. If they used cameras or var 95% of them would be disqualified in the first km. instead they insist on keeping judgments done by eyesight only, and get 3 warnings I think.
For 5km, mens world record 18 mins, womens 20 mins. Anyone who’s ever done a parkrun will know how laughable those times are to “walk” 5km.

And yep, if you do it, you look like a twat ;-)
