BMX was similar. Beth won all 3 of her quarter finals, all 3 of her semi finals and still came last in the final. Why so many races? Seems like madness.
 
We've had some sickening beats. The girl in the BMX final after dominating the heats. The windsurfer getting stiffed by the format. Tommy bogeying the 17th, the fingernails not registering in the swimming and that farce in the skeet shooting!
 
I was watching the dressage this morning and once i had put the whipping thing to the back of my mind i liked it . The commentator talking non stop really ruined it so gave up , robbie savage types droning on non stop , annoying

The Chilean woman also had a challenge a bit earlier in the same sequence that couldn't be overruled either, so chances are it would have been one extra each anyway.

It’s like winning the league by 30 points but losing your last match with a flukey defeat. All designed to have a “thrilling finale” rather than the best competitor

Doesn't Rugby League have something similar, that Grand Final thing? Isn't it the most prestigious trophy in domestic RL? The best team over the year won't necessarily win it, the best team on the night will.

They have a league winners trophy too, but you’re right, the winners of the Grand final are considered Champions as opposed to the league winners.

I was thinking the same, that that last leg in the relay was unreal. It then led to the USA losing the 4x100 for the FIRST time EVER. The pressure to test him will be enormous.
 
Always interesting to watch the track heats, as the top competitors employ the very real skill of committing the absolute least amount of effort to qualify for the next round, whilst the “chasers” go full out to get third or, in this games, get a time that qualifies them for the second chance round.
