Rodri Injury Updates | City say ligament injury (pg117)

Nah, Pol Ballus. Pretty connected with the club. Kind of a similar tier to Sam Lee in that he doesn't know absolutely everything but travels with the squad, attends press conferences, has decent contacts inside the club. The only definitive line coming out of City's camp is that Rodri's being sent for tests, while the line coming out of Rodri's camp is that he's going to miss a "significant period" of the season, with a few people close to him apparently worried it could be the entire season he's out for. I'm still holding out hope that he's back in February.

If I was Pol Ballus I'd be so offended by that.

I don’t think we will buy anyone in Jan to cover for Rodri. We have gundogan and he will fill that position. We will win it all this season. The team will do it for Rodri, loads more records to be broken this season. Relax blues we will cement our place in history

It could be a great opportunity for someone. If Kovacic or Gundo end up playing a lot more 6 we should see McAtee more, Lewis might cement his place as a midfielder if he gets a long run there instead of being a utility player, Wilson-Esbrand could end up playing at LB if Rico is elsewhere, Jacob Wright could get his chance in the cups.

It could even be the chance Nunes needs.

No point getting too down about it, he may well be back for the games we really need him for in March onwards and even if he misses the whole season, he will get the rest and break from football he needs - Rodri’s only 28, he’s the same age Fernandinho was when he arrived at the club, and if he’s gonna stay another 7 years then a break and being managed more carefully when he returns might be what’s needed to keep him at the top long term.

Definitely that game and possibly New Year's Eve
A totally bizarre last minute where we broke away from a saved penalty and had a clear overlap until Puncheon took De Bruyne out
Yes, 2017! Thought it was more recent.

My guess is he turns Rico into prime Kante
We have several options for sure, but just not an obvious specialist solution. Zico's a star in the making, but I struggle to see him effectively filling in the huge Rodri sized hole, for a full gruelling season.

We all feared losing Rodders for an extended period, & wondered how we'd cope in the circumstances. I suppose we're now gonna find out soon enough.

No one can fill in for Rodri he is simply the best in the world at his position but surely his deputy for the Spanish team can do a job there?

Just seen a video of Rodri leaving a building in Barca? in a white hooded top walking apparently with very minor discomfort. Bluemoon physios - is this consistent with a torn ACL?

(It's on city xtra on twitter/X)
The issue with these injuries (of which I've had several) isn't really normal day to day walking, the problems arise as soon as you put load onto the knee, or try to twist it.

In my cases my knees could go from locking up, to giving way. I had to climb the stairs by using my good leg first, & dragging the other up. You learn to adapt & cope, but proper physical exertion is a no no.

Thinking of my recovery times, I doubt we'll see a fully recovered & crucially, match fit Rodri until March/April at the very earliest. The knee is a load bearing joint & it takes as long as it takes to be able to withstand the rigours of a sprint burst, twisting & a sudden stop.

His return won't be rushed because he could make the problem even worse if not fully recovered & match ready. I was treated by a Dr Hurst who also treated ManUre players, but tbh, my knees have never really been the same.

Having said that, I'm not a multi-million pound footballer receiving the very best care & attention there is.

Was definitely New Year's Eve. Went to Selhurst that day, out on the night then for some reason I'd committed to going to Cheltenham races on New Year's Day.

I was sick.
