Our best ever player

Yaya doesn’t sniff the top 5 in all honesty.

I respect the opinion of those who disagree but for me he wasn’t even a top 3 player of his specific side.

KDB, Silva, Kun, Kompany, Rodri, Bell plus probably Trautmann, Haaland and Lee would all be above Yaya.

It's between David Silva, De Bruyne, Aguero for me, but Rodri does enter the conversation recently.

I love David Silva so much, but objectively I have to say it's De Bruyne.

Kev has the record breaking numbers, CL medal, trophy haul and big moments, pretty much the complete package for the club's best. The recognition from neutrals and even rivals about his ability does make him the easier pick.

Max Woosnam isn't a name you read very often, but he was quite an all round talent.

He played for City, captained the England football team, won a gold medal at the olympic games and was a Wimbledon champion at tennis, played cricket for England, shot a 147 at snooker, and was a scratch golfer as well.

In 1973, the club held a survey of fans to select our gratest ever player. It was held to celebrate the fact we had finally paid off William McAlpine, builders of Maine Road, after 50 years, and Bert Trautman won it by an absolute landslide.

I never saw Max Woosnam or Bert Trautman play for us, but they were undoubted talents, and my father always said Bert Trautman was the greatest player he had watched, and he had seen City from the early 30's, so he had watched Bell and Lee as well as many others

I don't think it's really fair for us to say which player was the greatest in this day and age. Pitches were mudheaps years ago, often frozen in winter, and tackles were far more robust years ago than they are now. If the rules were applied then as they are now, every player would have recieved a yellow card, and half the team a red card.

It's who is best in their era that counts, and in modern times, I will say David Silva, but It's intriguing to think how much better would Mike Summerbee have been if he had played on modern pitches without the infamous tackle from behind which was par for the course when he was playing, and how much worse would David Silva have been if he was being sythed down by Chopper Harris or his ilk everytime he recieved the ball?

We'll never know.

Yaya was fucking immense forget the nonsense about agents/ cakes etc he was world class Lee above YaYa your having a laugh

You can divide the recent legends into those who made City a domestic force (David, Kun, Yaya, Ferna, Kompany...) and those who have made us best in the world - Kevin, Rodri, Gundo, Haaland....

Given the starting point in 2008, was the former more difficult than the latter?

You can have good arguments in both directions. Kevin was part of both the best domestic seasons (17-19), the Treble season, and the 4 in a row season.

Whereas David, Aguero, Yaya contributed to us being a domestic force, they didn't succeed in the CL. And it wasn't only about luck, the quality of the individual performances wasn't the best. In contrast, Kevin, Rodri and Haaland have been outstanding in the CL too, while also winning 4 in a row. Haaland has played only 2 full seasons, so it's between Kevin and Rodri. Only the latter has been recognized as the best in (multiple) non-domestic competitions, though, which is another thing he has over the other legends.

It’s all about opinions. I’ve been supporting City since 1967 and to be fair Franny doesn’t make my top 4, but gave one of the greatest individual performances I’ve seen from a City player in the 1970 league cup final v West Brom on a mud heap of a pitch. He was like Maradona that day, and anybody that was there would never be ‘Having a laugh’ if you said he was one of our greatest players. RIP Franny.

I always rate players based on their ball control and skiill to run past players.... bit like Maradona whom for me was the best ever.

kinky was amazing and slick... D Silva too. .... Ali Benarbia.....foden not far off.... remember Beagrie had that in him. Oh yes Bernado Silva..

I'd go with Bernado. Again all subjective.

City's all-time XI would be arguably better than Liverpool's and Arsenal's and comparable to United's.

Another of the older names is Peter Doherty.

Some who saw both him and Bell said he was as good as Bell, some even had him ahead of Bell as a player.

The National Football Museum claim that the saying about football, ‘The Beautiful Game’, was coined in appreciation Peter Doherty.

30 goals from midfield in our title winning season of 1937.

What would be Pep Guardiola's greatest City XI? Its also funny topic to discuss

I have probably two scenarios , depending on formation
Something like this is one

Ederson
Walker Stones Dias
Rodri Gundogan
Bernardo KDB Sterling
Haaland Aguero

My list based on : number of seasons/games under Pep, influence, goals/assist and trophies won during tenure

HM: Dinho, Cancelo, Silva

There have been quite a few contenders for this; Rodri must be up there, plus Yaya, KDB, Sergio, David Silva. It’s hard to pick just one out, but at the moment I’d probably say Rodri, given his influence in the way we play and how he controls games.
