Bournemouth (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Not sure where you’re getting these observations from. Mental issues?
After winning consecutive 4 PL titles just after the treble, there are bound to be tired players who take some time to be motivated. I understand that.
Rodri & Bobb’s injuries could NOT be foreseen & no top player would have come knowing they would not get in the team in Rodri’s position. However- the situation is different now IMHO & we SHOULD buy a top replacement in January & it would be up to Rodri to fight for his place.

City fans aren’t known as entitled fans so let’s stop pretending we know what our owners & Pep are thinking

plenty of city fans knew Rodri was going to be injured at some point, have to disagree with you there, the length of which we couldn’t of planned for. Like I said no plan in place. It doesn’t make me entitled when I point that out.

Pep kinda messed up by not playing the kids but it is what it is.

Defense was going to be an issue. Gvardiol had a knock last game, Akanji didn't play last game because of a knock, Walker has been out for a while and Ake has had a start/stop season with niggles. Stones/Dias out and Lewis needed a rest. Maybe a Simpson-Pusey could have done better than the unfit defenders? Idk.

A Rodri would have helped by shielding the back 4 but he isn't here and neither Gundo or Kova can provide that level of physicality and presence.

Haaland seemed to pick up something in the first half and he's playing like he's already running on fumes.

Not enough goal threats or playmakers on the pitch. Look leggy without physicality.

Will need to be up for the Sporting and especially Brighton match. Get to the international break and hopefully get healthy/fit. Everyone is upset with the effort but it is still just the first loss in the league (I know some of the wins have been unconvincing but wins nonetheless).
get back to your anniversary.

We had to lose a league game at some point, today was the day.

Still, that doesn't change the fact it was poor. Clearly a blend of some players looking like they're rapidly in decline, others like Foden looking out of sorts and injuries.

Once we get some players back fit we'll be OK, so I wouldn't panic.

There's a few like Gundo, Walker and Bernado that haven't got a great deal left to offer us. Might sound harsh on Bernie, but he's been pretty mediocre since the treble and looks like he might be on the slide.
I like to see the running stats of Bernardo.
The lad never stops.
I don't think he's on the slide at all.
Foden's form so far is more worrying for me.
It seems a world away from his brilliant best of last season.
But like alot in our squad I just think they're knackered with all the games over the last few years

Early days yet but this could be an average season by our high standards. It happens and if it does we can't complain, it feels like the end of an era.

That may be. But if it is, there's one thing I'll trust, because this club is now so incredibly well run: it'll be the beginning of another, pretty shortly. Maybe not as glorious — how could it be? — but still pretty bloody good.

Recruitment is such a key element.

We have struggled to find the next Kev, hell the next silva is still it unattainable.

Recruitment does need to improve as without 2 key players in Kev’s and Rodri we struggle to win. Even with a goal machine up top.

Just a game too far with a squad stretched too thin. Bournemouth played well (especially Kerkez & Semenyo). They also had the full week to prepare and were able to play with a lot more energy than us. Only Ederson & Gvardiol can really hold their heads up today. Foden & Silva kept trying but it just didn't work out for them today. Might as well have played O'Reilly & McAtee for all the use Kovacic & Gundogan were today.
That midfield duo is like watching two tortoises mating. They are so slow. There was a point when Bournemouth broke and none of our midfielders were anywhere to be seen. Trotting back like it was a pre season friendly.

I take NO NOTICE of rumours but you obviously do & use them to criticise Pep & the current situation (one loss & we’re still second).
Rodri - there are injuries which all players suffer from - & then there’s the dreaded ACL injury which keeps you out for the season. That could NOT have been planned for & as I’ve already said, no top player would come to us as a back up for Rodri. But they will now & it will then be up to Rodri to fight any new player to regain his place.

Yes, but we contributed to their excellence. Too ponderous in midfield, too slow to react when we lost possession, too laboured in our build ups giving them time to get settled in defence. Hardly created anything until last 10.
As I said Bournemouth were excellent

Bollocks, maybe the lads are absolutely fucked. Wouldn’t surprise me if Akanji and Guardiol are carrying knocks. Pep probably had an eye on Sporting and might have to use players in that who need extra rest. Hopefully Pep looks at this though and thinks maybe it’s time for Gundogan to step back he’s added nothing since his return maybe put Nunez in there.
They found energy in the last ten minutes which would suggest otherwise .

As a team we are just terrible in defense and clueless in attack and have been most of the season. A result like this was coming, and probably already could/should have come on several occasions already this season if it wasn't for last minute miracles. Instead of waking up its unfortunately looking like we are getting worse with every game.
Very disappointed that Txiki (who has done a brilliant job over the years) doesnt look like leaving on a high, instead it seems like he is handing over a squad in a mess. Smallest number of senior players in the league. Several old past it players who struggle to play even once a week. Wingers who possess very little goal threat. "Attacking" mids that have no keys to unlock the oppositions bus. A defense that cant defend counters and seems unable to learn from their mistakes since we concede the same goal every game. We used to have a squad were we could rotate 4 or 5 players each game and more or less expect the same high quality performance. These days the quality drop is significant as soon as a few players is missing.

Pep will figure it out, he always does. And luckily both Arsenal and Liverpool are far from their best as well and we are still in a good position to win it. But we need to start playing better, asap. Our main attacking strategy currently seems to be having our worst attacking players (our CBs) on the ball in front of the oppositions bus both taking shots and making final plays. I'm just a stupid fan and am certainly not claiming to even being in the same universe as Pep football knowledge wise (or in most other ways) but right now I struggle to see what our actual plan is to handle opposition threats and parked buses. There seems to be no plan at all.
He is nearly at the same point Fergie was in his last season at United.

He was desperate for new signings and it was evident the Glazers weren't playing ball. So he flogged what he had into the ground, and left the club with players that were once very good in their prime to ones that couldn't do it anymore.

We have been screaming out for major investment for years now, but keep buying the wrong type of players. We should have signed a RB years ago and let him rotate with Kyle so that he is ready to step up when Walkers time is at an end. Which should have been at the end of last season.

The same can be said with KDB.

And in a few years we will be saying the same about Stones.

If the way this season has started continues - we can't keep getting away with these awful displays of football. Then not a chance Pep will sign an extension. He can't be happy watching games similar to what he witnessed today. Games like today have been coming. We have gotten away with it over the last few weeks!!!
