Sporting CP (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Feels like 16/17 all over again, pep has not been backed at all in the transfer window and it’s causing devastating consequences. People thought my criticism of the squad was hyperbole after the Bournemouth game, well unfortunately I’ve been proven correct.

The simple fact is despite having arguably the greatest manager of all time, our squad is so poor I do not believe we will get Top 4 this season unless we sign at least 2 players in the Jan transfer window.

The ref was a bent ****. Clear pen on Bernado. Didn’t give the one that Earl missed and gave one against Nunes that wasn’t anywhere close to being as much of a foul as the one on Bernie.

Humiliation
Pep should be ashamed. Putting a youngster with 16 minutes played in a Champions League game against a good team. If that was the plan should give him more minutes in other games. Disaster

Not his greatest fan.....but Silvinho and Doku (when he starts) show exactly why Pep bought Grealish, and I never thought I'd say it, but he has to play when fit, particularly without Rodri.....we have so little control as the above 2 give the ball away so much, it's not % of possession but how/when they do. Grealish has that control of a game. Tbf alot of the others were poor tonight, if he doesn't score, Haaland is generally a liability.

The worst of it is the manner of the loss. If we lost 2-1 it wouldn't have been that bad. We got embarrassed. They were toying with us

No point throwing tantrums.

The team has won so much and slogged their way over the line last season.

The winning run was not going to continue indefinitely.

Injuries have caused us issues. Particularly Rodri who is the engine.

The annoying thing from me is the inability to stop counters. Don’t have any players capable of breaking up play.

All in all tho, it’s the end of this team. The boss needs support and hopefully he has the hunger to build again.

City will rise again.

a lot of reflection needed but no panic and no pointing figures at players and a coach that won it all.

Issues is down to recruitment. The club has failed in that department. Too many pats on the back and resting on our success.

Interesting time ahead.

I did mention that in 3/4 seasons from now where would we be? Where would the rags be with this new guy and got laughed at.
Not about throwing tantrums, there was genuine errors in this side that haven’t been resolved for two years. People want to know why and are rightly angry, you don’t get extra blue points for not being annoyed. The next fixtures are not looking good…

Soppy cunts in the matchday thread man, it was a shit game, it happens, people are acting like we're 10 points behind in the league and nowhere near the top of CL table thing
I think folk are getting a bit twitch about the method of play, the outcome and just how little return we get for having the lion's share of the game. This seems to have been the first team we have played this season that hasn't built a brick wall on the edge of their area and we haven't filled our boots. A cracking start from Phil and then fuckin' hell! I was right in the pre-match thread about Gyökeres.

Perspective: We lose our first league game in 2024. We lost a league cup game that 99% of us would have written off given the injury situation, we lose a Champions League game in a new format that noone is used to that under the normal group stages we wouldn't have cared too much about.

Injuries or not we look shite.
Is Pep off?
Are we getting a points deduction?
Something is definitely wrong.
We’ve gone from treble winners, 4 in a row to looking bang average.
So fucking irritating.
January can’t come soon enough cos we’re lacking something, a spark, anything.
Never thought I’d see us play this badly under Pep across multiple games.

Pep is to be plamed. Every one saw that comming, our performance was poor for sometime, and our defence is easly overtaked by counter attack and he kept playing high defence!!!! Why?

Chastening night. Played fairly well first half, should have been 2 or 3 up. But the second half was absolutely desperate. Brainless and bollockless. Real lack of character.
Tactically we‘re all over the shop. Huge gaps everywhere. The experiment with Lewis playing that far forward needs to stop now. Gvardiol needs to concentrate on defending. Kovacic is nowhere close to being good enough to play as a no. 6 on his own.
And at the top end of the pitch we‘re relying on players who are too inconsistent or past it.
The only bright note was Foden looking more like his proper self - because by fuck we‘re going to need him.

Nunes ?
I thought it was difficult for him playing on the left side in recent games ….but on the right he is even worse !
And no I am not singling him out….there was many others out there who were just as bad ….
