Sporting CP (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

We might not have Rodri back until the middle of next season with his injury.
Solly March has the same injury and he’s not played since September 2023 and there’s no signs he’s anywhere near ready to come back yet.

You cant blame injuries for us being totally dogshit up front. Only Grealish is out, Kev back but looked rusty and will take him a run of games but worrying, other than that, this is what we are left with. Doku/Grealish/Nunes/Savinho/Silva - A complete lack of a emd product let aline goals. And 1 striker only who is missing chance after chance atm.
Doku and Savinho both lack composure atm ,
and Haaland is not firing properly.

Nunes was poor I agree.

Do you not think so many injuries affect the whole team balance.

So many injuries would affect most teams, but the first half should have seen the game over it chances had been taken.

Not his greatest fan.....but Silvinho and Doku (when he starts) show exactly why Pep bought Grealish, and I never thought I'd say it, but he has to play when fit, particularly without Rodri.....we have so little control as the above 2 give the ball away so much, it's not % of possession but how/when they do. Grealish has that control of a game. Tbf alot of the others were poor tonight, if he doesn't score, Haaland is generally a liability.
Silvinho and doku, headless chickens with no football brains between them, take three on and then crumble at the final hurdle

Opponent goes on the front foot, lifts the intensity, and suddenly we start shirking as individuals and wobbling as a team. Happened in the opening minutes at Bournemouth and the opening minutes of the second-half tonight. Coaching staff better get into them and have them better prepared before it’s repeated at Brighton.

That’s attitude. Too many quiet, humble players now. That’s the wrong attitude, we need players that can step up, leaders who will drag the rest up, even if it’s just by shouting a lot, getting in oppositions’ faces, putting in a proper fucking shithouse tackle then confronting anyone who whinges about it.

Are there any players like Vieira, Keown, Adams, Wise, Keane (twat), Terry out there anymore? That’s the attitude we need.

Failure to our chances should have been 3 up at least and the game is over.
However we need a rebuild and have done for a while as some players are done or have reached the summit.
Walker and Kev can no longer be relied on.Stones is a great player but cant play 3 games on the bounce. Why we bought Gundo back is a mystery not like us at all.
We will still be thereabouts at the end of the season.Just wish Pep would stop putting round pegs in square holes. If there is a kid in the academy play them if a senior player is injured only one way to find out if they can hack it.Still come rain or shine its great being a blue.

The amount of penalties that has been scored against us over the last few seasons surely defies mathematical logic by now?

Peps biggest challenge this week may not be injuries but to lift the players heads to perform against Brighton. The players who are fit and need to go again after playing the recent games are probably shell shocked they are not used to losing like this in this team.

Some of the biggest overreactions I’ve heard for a long time on here this evening. Get through the international break with minutes into Kev and no more injuries and we will be fine. These players are the same ones that won 4 in a row and I’m still backing them to make it five in five…..as long as we can stop these injuries piling up.
They aren't though are they.

Nunes, Savinho and maybe even Doku were not integral in winning 4 in a row

For me Doku is the best of the 3 but not consistent enough yet.

At present they are having to play far too much and we are weaker for it.

Proper shitshow tonight, and armed the red media with all sorts of ammo to use against us to boot.

Every single aspect of coverage from the commentators through pundits through media all the way down to red twats in the match thread, all wallowing in our present fortunes, with knives out, the negativity is heavy.

We are in a bad place and the players are spread too thin with injuries and relentless games, and it is showing.

Without all our first team choices available our tactics of the high line is exploited every time we lose the ball.

Teams just have to defend in numbers and break with pace against us, and we are making it easy for them atm.

Pep needs to prove he is the best again, to find a way to turn it around, and soon or we are winning nowt.

Lowest point since that 4-0 v everton in Peps first season imo.

We must look forward and not dwell in the now, its tempting to just go for the five timer and fck everything else off.

On the bright side, these three losses have been spread over three comps inc one we dont want anyway, and have not damaged the others beyond recall.

Time to dig deep, and keep our players away from the internationals for once like other clubs do.
I agree with some of this but "Relentless games" is not true. Liverpool have played exactly the same amount of games. They are not in the same position as us. They do not have the same injuries as us. Nor the same ability to commit defensive suicide every game at least 3 times.
