Simplistic people like simplistic solutions to problems. It's much easier to say shit like Get Brexit Done or Stop the Boats than outline a multi-faceted, complex solution to an issue, especially with the way media is nowadays. Short sound bites for social media and 24 hours news, and the long form content is almost entirely done by some non-journalist, non-expert that isn't actually going to challenge any of your positions. If you were a charlatan, would you rather sit down for 10 minutes with Jeremy Paxman, or 3 hours with Joe Rogan?

But let's not pretend this is a new thing. Elon Musk is no different to Rupert Murdoch, who has been doing everything he can to influence elections for decades (and succeeding).

The fact that he is the world's richest man, no. The fact he owns the biggest social media platform, maybe yes to an extent. But the issues go far deeper and will just continue to fester unless they are addressed.
