I wonder if it will be worth it when women they know die. I am sure it feels hysterical to many, but I live in a state where many women have children after 35, which means increasing risk of complications. I have experienced this myself and same with many of my friends.

You know everything’s gone off the rails when you find the most compassion on a sports forum.

Ironically southern and rural America will pay for it the most, the states where he had the strongest backing. It's there where the women will really suffer.

I'm hoping New York and California (& the other strong blue states) will have enough power to protect women's health care rights, which should hopefully help the states around them.

If I were American, this issue alone would have been enough. Couldn't fathom stripping the rights of my partner, mum, auntie, cousins etc...

I'm sorry that you have to live in such a country. It's a wonderful country, but there's a significant number of fools among it's population (witness the election result). And that's before you take into account the politicians

The only to stop the drift to the far-right is to materially improve the lives of young people, so that they can afford to live comfortably without just bankrolling landlords, have children if they want them, have a small taste of luxury if they want it etc.

What these individuals are feeling, more than anything else, is the decline of western hegemony. Weak growth and mass migration made necessary by an inexorably ageing population. I guess it’s possible to ameliorate these things by pulling certain levers but the fundamentals are unchanged. I fear it’s a tsunami that will overwhelm most developed countries in the course of the next generation and will lead to increasingly radical and desperate solutions that will ultimately have little effect.

Agree with that, though I suspect that we might now see AI/Automation/Tech embraced in ways and on a scale that few have fully considered. Its adoption will undercut the demand for migrant labour but very soon undercut other jobs, too.
