It’s not Trump or an all-red legislature (which even my Trump-supporting clients are afraid of). The lesson here is that decency can be irrelevant. That abiding by the law can be irrelevant. That betraying trust can be irrelevant. That ultimate power can be achieved in a democracy without any of these as basic conditions.
