Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I think most of us had the feeling we'd lose before the game. Even when we went 1-0 up I still thought we'd lose. If we could have got the second goal when we were on top I would have still been worried I but thought we may get a draw.

This team peaked ( Obviously) in the treble season and we needed to start strengthening then. We had great players but they weren't getting any younger. Our recruitment lately has been poor. Nunes is trying his best but is a level below our standard. Savinho ( Yes I know he's young) is flattering to deceive. Doku the same. We won't even mention Phillips.

Partway through the second half I had to nip to the shops before they closed. We were still 1-0 up but the writing was on the wall. I came back and we were losing 2-1. I was gutted but not surprised and that is the worst part about it. Every game atm is predictable. On top, usually score, fail to increase that lead then fall apart. Rinse and repeat. I've just watched their goals back and the defending is absolutely shocking, particularly the first goal. Lewis lay on the floor, players with weak challenges. It just needed somebody to take charge and boot the fucking ball into row z. The second goal was equally abysmal. As usual easy to play through and he's one on one with Eddie.

I've no idea where we go from here or where the next win is coming from. For once I'm fucking delighted we have an international break. Every single one of our players needs to stay at home. We desperately need all our key experienced players back but sadly, even then, I don't expect a great improvement.

Bizarrely if Liverpool and Arsenal drop points we're still in it, but in our heart of hearts I think we all know this season it is going to be a step too far. The club is at a crossroads and everything hinges on these fucking charges. We hopefully come out of them unscathed and strengthen with the fresh top quality the squad desperately need.
Great post and I would also add that we also need the manager situation sorting out ASAP.

The result was read out over the speakers and was greeted by rapturous applause.

I don't hold out much hope.....but come on Villa!!!
Not a cat in hells chance

I really feel like you take one player out of the back line and replace him with any one of the injured CBs and you have a totally different game. They just needed someone to help them organize. Walker is not it and the other three are too young/inexperienced. Especially the first goal - Dias boots that out 100%.

Don't do it to yourself mate. It will be a stroll for Liverpool

Not sure if there was an alternative though?
There is always an alternative. For me we just needed more bodies in midfield and defence. We are 1-0 up, it’s 70 mins in and we still have 8 players at one point in the last quarter of the pitch. We lose the ball and we are in trouble. Why? Why have we got so many players bombing forward in a game that we just need to win. We have 20 minutes to see out. If we have to put 4 players on who will just pack the defence and midfield. I don’t care who they are. Just doing something,

It was coming their goal and we just did nothing about it at all.

Put it thus way, with a depleted squad that includes injuries to the current Balon D'or winner and the best creative midfielder in premier league history. Combine that with a team that has had a relentless schedule that has been WAY more brutal than any other team by a fucking mile, if we get pipped to the title, it won't be because they've been exceptional, it'll be because we've sub standard.
I would be happy as fuck at this moment in time if we get pipped for the title. Problem is the way were playing we are more likely to be fighting for top four.

Mixed messages there Eccles.

We will definitely be OK is very reassuring but then it's a case of fingers crossed.
Well I guess even I wouldn’t be able to cope if people started to insult me for being a happy clapper!!! *wry grin*

It’s been one hell of a bad week in all directions and I don’t think I could think of any comebacks if they did. :-)

Ah fuck off mate, you don’t score extra points for not being mad. At the very least take Walker off on 60th, how he didn’t is one of the worst decisions I’ve seen him make.
And bring on who? I’m disappointed but I’m not going to start crying when clearly circumstances are against us and by and large they are playing well. 4 away games in 11 days against some decent teams. Perspective is needed.

Of course. In over 50 years of supporting City he's given me moments I'd never thought I'd experience. But he's not immortal and he'll leave us at some point, sooner or later. What we need to do is ensure we make the right decisions, with our head rather than our heart.
1000%

He'll go down as not only our best ever manager but one of the greatest of all time ( never mind his stints at other clubs just ours is enough for that accolade) ..

We've all been there when the boss is off for the day and people slack off..

Pep needs to say what he's going to do...

My two cents:
Walker is off it. He is misreading plays and buildups. Love the guy but he might be past it now.

Perhaps I missed this but - why were Dias, Stones not available? To put Pusey and Lewis in the middle didn't work.
Kovacic was good. But the game turned when Gundogan came off and Bernardo went on. Not blaming Bernardo but the pace picked up when Gundo went off.

Chances missed always bite us.

No counterattack at all. No impetus to strike fast. No personality in the box.

I'll say it once and again. Grealish not on this squad is confusing. Something has gone terribly wrong between him and Pep.

Is Doku injured?

And finally. Debruyne. No impact whatsoever. Yes he hasn't played. Yes it takes time. But if you're constantly injured, how can he get into a rhythm? I think his days are numbered as well.
