MCFC women vs Hammarby

Not our best performance of the season but the result was all that mattered in the end. Had enough chances to finish the game off earlier but again we were quite wasteful in front of goal. Glad Fujino got on the scoresheet in the end but missed a couple of really good chances prior to finally nabbing that all important 2nd goal. Not Jess Park's best game for us and was surprised she wasn't one of the first taken off when Taylor finally remembered he had a subs bench.

Good result - they were very physical and pressed well fouling Yui at every opportunity. What an amazing save from Yamashita and the goal for Aoba will do her the world of good. We do need Laia back as Alanna gives me kittens when passing out.

Keep this run going - well done ladies.

Where did they dig that commentator up from? Sounded like the most miserable Scotsman around whose dog had just died as well.

Need Hemp back at the weekend to have any chance at Chelsea and Shaw to be fit.

I thought it was a great performance against a team that weren’t frightened of showing physicality. Never mind what the Scottish twat of a commentator said, he’s a full on wanker.

This team has better balance than our first team at the moment.
Hemp is the best crosser of the ball in the entire club.

Similarly Hasegawa is the best available holding midfielder in the entire club!

That commentator, Jesus wept. He could talk people on to high buildings

That was a really poor half of football from us. Not moving the ball about very well at all, quite static especially in midfield. We knew what to expect in their physicality (it's been mentioned in every report on this game during the last few days) so it can hardly ve a surprise. Ref has been letting them get away with it though and only 1 card issued only when our player threw her arms up in frustration. We need to do better in the 2nd half.
They were moving it about - backwards 'n sideways again - but not well, as you say. Teams like this need to be outpassed but the passes have to be first time, there has to be movement and the whole thing done at pace. Why we didn't play the 'Barca' game again I don't know.

The ref had her own 'personalised' LotG especially written for this game. Compare some of the the blatant tugging and grabbing, kicking at ball, foot, ankle that was summarily ignored by this ref to the sheer theatricals of booking Casparij for timewasting at a free kick. She clearly wanted to audition for Hamlet! Dreadful performance from Uefa's finest!

2-0 and Bunny didn't score. Aobi could have had the hat trick tonight - she hit the bar, ballooned one over that should have gone in, and scored with a beautiful diving header.

Gareth Taylor said:”They outnumber us in terms of size”
WTF?
Outnumber? He probably means outweigh! He probably had 'em all weighed pre-match like they do in a boxing match and was referring to the kilogram total.

They were very similar to most WSL side outside the top three - quick to prevent the attacking team, quite rough 'n ready in the tackle (another ref would have booked half of 'em) and can only outplay a side in their own league!

I was surprised match officials were appointed from Denmark. Norway and Denmark share a common history and are culturally very sympathetic.

We have a shared history with Denmark too. They ruled half of England but the good old Mancs defeated them and slung them back over the Pennines. (See the commemorative glass in the town hall.) To avenge their defeat Danish refs have been very harsh on us over the years. Danegeld 991 et seq.

Another enjoyable night at Joie Stadium with the travelling away fans relentless . Although until we went two up it was always possible they might nick a goal as we began to fade . Hammarby were solid but lack finesse in the final ball and lost the second ball countless times . Shout out to Yamashita for a fabulous save . Mary Fowler more comfortable on the left and putting some delightful passes through in the second half .
