Watched the first two.
Billy Bob is such a great actor, he just seems to easily convince in whatever role he does, even though its obviously him, if that makes sense. He doesn't have to try too hard, he's just got it.
I've worked on the periphery in the oil and gas industry, and the money involved is mind blowing, even when filtered down to suppliers, contractors, etc.
I'm hoping this series will show what goes on. So far so good.
 
First ep of 'Dune: Prophecy' is out.

Saw a review of it as being 'boring' and I think because the pacing is reflective of the film it may struggle a little bit with an audience. I liked it, myself, but then again I like complicated stories that are trying to find their feet.

It's a little flawed, but I expected that.

Yeah, I’m in the “Not bad” camp as well.

Nearly always happens when I watch something that I’ve seen hugely bigged up and recommended.

Your expectations seem to play a big part in how much you enjoy something.

Recently watched the first two series of “House of the Dragon” Started watching it with zero expectation it was going to be decent, due to all the negative reviews I’d heard.

But actually thought it was pretty good. Obviously not in the same league as Game of Thrones. But I doubt much in that genre is.

I watched the 1954 TV version of 1984, last week. It was adapted and produced by Nigel Kneale and Rudolph Cartier who'd created the Quatermass Experiment the previous year.

It starred Peter Cushing and Yvonne Mitchell with Andre "Quatermass" Morrell, Donald Pleasance, Leonard "Good Old Days" Sachs and wilf Bramble in the other roles.

The TV picture definition was very crude for the studio scenes, so they could be quite blurry, whereas the pre filmed exterior shots have really benefitted from HD upgrading.

For a 70 year old filmed play yeah it is slow paced, but it's the power that Cushing and Mitchell give to Winston and Julia which saves it. Cushing really should have been considered one of the great actors. There were a lot of political issues when it was broadcast, slippery slope to ruin etc until the Queen an Prince Philip let it be known they had very much enjoyed the first broadcast and were looking forward to the restaging at the end of the week. Needless to say the restaging went ahead, the original hadn't been recorded, this version was made by filming a modified TV screen to make a telerecording on film.

What strikes me is that this was broadcast 5 years after the book, and literally only 9 years after the war. Orwell wasn't writing science fiction for a distant future he was very much writing about the nature of the changing political landscape. It suggested to me that the nature of totalitarianism is the same whether from the far right or the far left. Stalin murdered more people than Hitler did.

What would Orwell think of our society with multiple truths which can be interchanged at will and Big Brother as entertainment? Anyway it's on iPlayer and worth a couple of hours I think.

Nigel Kneale as I say created Quatermass, in the late 60s he also wrote a play the year of the sex Olympics, despite the lurid title it was actually preconceiving reality TV about 30 years early!

Loved the first series mate, can't wait to see series 2.

Just as an aside this is my newest coin acquisition, an Elizabeth I hammered silver groat.

Nice coins of the realm, they even have the old bite marks that tested for authenticity.
Others may think differently on series two, but we switched off as we found the going heavy and tough.

Just checked the bbci player and it isn't showing as being available, the bbc website may have given my PC Cat aids.
 
Would like to point 'After the Party' which started on Wednesday and is available on the C4 player.

Set in New Zealand and wonderfully acted, I watched the first 5 on Wednesday and finished it the following day.

Outstanding and very highly recommended.

Clipped I believe is the term Bob, although I'm not an expert.
Folks would clip a bit off a silver coin to gain a tiny piece of wealth. If you were caught the punishment was harsh.
I think this is what we may be seeing here.
