I think Pep needs a share of the blame too. He made two nonsensical subs. Debruyne for Gundo and McAtee for Ake. He didn't need to do that.

He surely didn’t instruct Gvardiol to play a half arsed back pass, or Ederson to leave a gap between himself and the post then charge out into no-mans land with no hope of getting to the ball.

Those sort of things just shouldn’t happen in a top team.

If you look at the replay, it was only Pusey and Lewis that were back there on the 3rd goal. Bernardo comes charging in late. McAtee was way up the pitch.

No, I get that, but that's where he should have been. He wasn't brought on to play defence. He didn't come on to take Ake's position is what I mean, he came on to take Foden's.

The fault of this is on Gvardiol for the second time in a week. He might be a decent attacking player but fuck me he has some glaring weaknesses as a defender.

The glaring weaknesses are the two crowd favourites in defence who struggle to stay fit. Due to their injuries, Gvardiol, Akanji and Dias have been overplayed, Lewis probably too.

Even the best defenders start making mistakes when they are being overplayed.

There's just no energy in the team right now. They are all either playing on fumes or suffering with injuries. We're not pressing from the front as a unit so it's easier for teams to play out against us. This then puts the midfield under pressure as there isn't one of them out there with an ounce of defensive know-how and a serious lack of legs trying to cover too many holes. It's like watching headless chickens run around chasing the ball. No real leader in the defense without Ruben to help keep things together in that area of the pitch either not to mention a serious lack of pace when playing that suicidal high-line. It's no wonder Ederson thinks he has to play sweeper-keeper all the time.
