I noticed this aswell, very unusual. Confidence completely shot too. Maybe not recovered after his peno miss in the summer? There was an action in the 2nd half (3-0 at the time) where he played a nothing ball into the midfield and they ended up having a shot from long-range that went wide. The camera panned to Akanji and he looked like he had the world on his shoulders. I don’t know what is wrong with him but he doesn’t look happy at all. Someone give him a maths exam to cheer him up.
Needs to be organising that defence much better when 3-1 up. Forgive the first goal. Then make sure you are shouting at everyone and marshalling them. You are the senior pro that's your job. If a midfielder isn't tight bollock them. If your offside line isn't right, shout it from the rooftops so the players get in position.
And if you lose the ball bust your gut to get back rather than jog.
Assuming that you are fully fit that is .
That might be the case, but when we were coasting at 3-0 I was shocked to see him pop up right on the corner of their box when we were having a spell of possession. There's literally no need for him to be that high upAkanji amongst our other defenders are feeling the effects of having to make numerous recovery runs in games these days.
Our defenders would normally make 2/3 a game, Now it's 10/11 or more. We used to be the best in the world and pinning in teams, Now they get our with ease and get at the back four along with being able to play the ball over the top on numerous occasions.
Certainly not, We should of sat behind the ball and picked them off on the counter attack basically just see the game out. That might be the case, but when we were coasting at 3-0 I was shocked to see him pop up right on the corner of their box when we were having a spell of possession. Yeah, I know. And Pep would probably scream at him if he sat backCertainly not, We should of sat behind the ball and picked them off on the counter attack basically just see the game out.
On the other hand we have always continued to play the same way regardless the scoreline we keep going.
You've hit the nail on the head, It's always been the way.Yeah, I know. And Pep would probably scream at him if he sat back
I just said as much. He has ALL the physical tools, but his mentality is just not there. If you gave Dias, for example, Akanji's physical tools, he'd be the best defender ever.Watching back the goals, his lack of urgency is alarming.
Yes, some of our defensive woes are because of what they’re asked today. It doesn’t excuse individual mistakes, but sometimes their instructions probably make it harder to recover from them. The high line, playing from the back instead of booting it up - we had rule followers on the field last night. They’re not going to go against the grain.Yeah, I know. And Pep would probably scream at him if he sat back
He's a 14m CB that has gone to feature in our side as a automatic choice, incredible effort.
Amazing that people like Grealish, Phillips and Foden get such an easy ride.
Ederson another who has been a magnificent part of this club for the last 7 seasons, yet people on here talk about him as if he is some second rate player, fucking strange and very wrong.
A great buy, bargain really. Half decent with strong players around him.If he's is such mainstay of our defence, why since Kyle has lost his pace, Rodders injury, JS and Diaz injuries has the defence fallen apart?
He has been an outstanding purchase in terms what we paid. But in a few games now players further up the pitch have got back faster than him to cover.
Fatigue, has has played a lot of minutes in the last 18 months and a world cup.If he's is such mainstay of our defence, why since Kyle has lost his pace, Rodders injury, JS and Diaz injuries has the defence fallen apart?
