Walker was never getting back in that situation, he was supporting the attack, then Dopey Doku lost possession again and they broke and played the ball in the position where we’ve been caught out repeatedly… over to where our left back should have been. Gvardiol, Doku & Lewis were the ones culpable for the goals

If you look a bit further KDB and Bernie did not even bother to trace back. Grealish traced from a more advanced position than these two.

When Doku lost the ball our front line was Grealish - Bernado - Halaand - Doku. KDB Lewis Gundo and Walker formed the 2nd line. 2CB at the back.

That is the problem of reverted fullback. Rarely any reverted fullbacks can balance the need of defending and attacking. They also need to identify if it is the moment to hold the CM position and tackle or return back to the left back position. In this case Rico made a mistake he should keep his distance with Gundo and tackle (or foul) the Juve player in the middle rather than rushing back to his left back slot first - give up the entire midfield.

That is why reverted fullbacks sucks and we only won the treble when Pep ditched this idea for half the season. We also won vs Forest when Josko played traditional fullback only need to worry about defending the flank rather than doing a reverted fullback.

He’s played 2 games in his Central Midfield position this season and we've won both games.. Had some good games out wide also. He’s certainly not the second coming of Yaya but have you seen the state of whats going on currently in our midfield? Got to be worth a try, cos what we have been doing in the last 6/8 weeks is frankly killing us!! Tonight 2 goals just the latest examples, in a very long line of amateur hour… Look at the state of it!!

its certainly going to get worse before it gets better. rags home and Villa away are two games where we can play into the hands of Amorim and Emery and pay the price for it. there is zero midfield discipline, positionally its a mess, everyone pushed up to pass the ball around aimlessly and quite slow, some strange long balls to wingers from opposite side, all very inaccurate, very rare actions on the wings which holds any real danger. its a dream for deep sitting defences what we do now. slow recycle of the ball, without much purpose. impotent possession. its like fucking with very soft dick. not that I would know what that is like. :D

then we lose the ball and our positional awareness is awful at the moment. all over the place. opponents imo dont believe how easily they find themselves in certain situations where they can break and 1-2 runners can create panic big time. and then the likes of Maddison looks a shit in all games after City game, but in that one he didnt believe his luck of how easy we made it for him.

Impossible to argue with any of that but some will certainly try...

We have to sit further back and protect the defence, get back to basics by fucking the high line off and playing as a deeper unit. It’s the only way we’re going to tighten up and also give more freedom to our attacking players, especially big Earl. Pep is never going to touch it though so fuck knows what is going to happen?

We have to consider playing deeper and shelving the hybrid full back because we don't have the player to cut out counters and control possession like Rodders does nor do we have the legs to get back. Minimum two new signings in January. A new right back and most importantly someone can support and play with Rodders. Backup for Haaland wouldn't go amiss either. Not holding my breath on this, given the complacency we have seen in the last 3 windows. We should have been replenishing from a position of strength and its not hindsight to be saying that.

If you look when doku lost possessions mckennie or whatever his name is was behind walker.. Walker is walking back toward goal and then mckennie starts running. At that point it’s too late.

This is a good analogy. Punches that we used to slip or to move imperceptibly out of range of now catch us often enough to damage us.

In boxing it’s called growing old overnight because it can seem that way as boxers fight so infrequently. In football where teams play twice a week the realisation that a side is growing old should be no surprise to anyone but in this case it does seem that obvious signs were overlooked.
