When companies slash staff to the bone and expect people to work overtime to cover it's bound to bite them on the arse eventually.

Do you want to work when you don't have to?

Even people who do all the overtime cannot work after a certain amount of days by law.
 
The answer is to employ and train more drivers/conductors. I know this is a really revolutionary concept, but sometimes you have to be radical. I am willing to advise the railway companies for a modest consultancy fee (say £250,000) as I know such a change would be quite novel for them and they'd need to talk it through with their management.
 
What an absolute shit show, this country is embarrassing. You can bet that network rail will still have inspectors at the gate taking ages to check tickets and contributing to large queues. The cheek of checking tickets when most services have been cancelled and folk have been packed into a couple of carriages like sardines on the services that are running.

They'd rather pay 'contingency managers' 3 times our daily wage with half our training to 'work' instead.

However, none of these want to work more than 2 hours. £250 an hour is great work of you can take it.

The DFT have banned this practice from the 1st January because they were lied too on how much they were paying these people.

It will get worse before it's gets better with GBR. There's a huge shitlist that the DFT, train operators the unions are going through to try and sort it.
