I’m not saying that they were his exact words but I’m surprised if anyone thinks that was a normal interview.
I think it was a team of footballers who have had to show more fortitude and discipline than any of us will ever know to reach their level. They're going through a bad couple of months out of years and years. Meanwhile you're one of the most embarrassing people on the internet and if our players launched a character assassination on you every time you had a howler of a day they'd literally get nothing else done.Do you think we showed any spine today?
I was looking through these pages trying to get some perspective. Your post made me feel better. Still gutted but I feel better now. I'm sure City will be all the stronger for this. Thanks and Best Wishes.First things first pep is a legend and he gets the chance to turn this around clearly.
My worry is we need a huge overhaul. Pep is obviously near the end of his stay here be it 2 years or less. So it did seem the right time to go was next summer so a new manager can really create his own dynasty and has less sentimentally to the existing players that produced the goods for pep.
Does he really want to say to Walker, stones, Ederson, kdb, silva and Gundo you need to find a new club? As that’s going to be tough and the end of an era.
Pep has given us the best years of our footballing lives, he’s a workaholic and will be doing everything to turn this around. He’ll be hurting like mad and I feel for him.
Ederson is superb when he has defenders who can play out from the back, unfortunately those players are always injured! So much wrong at the moment. Firstly gonna start with Ederson. Started the season well then his form falls off a cliff. Pep brings in Ortega and I think we look better. So why then make the change back to Ederson. We do need new defenders and midfielders we all know that but Haaland body language and effort today was shocking. Barely broke sweat and pocketed by Harry Maguire. Aguero might have only been 5ft 7in but at least the opposition players knew they’d been in a game. Players needed in Jan and let’s hope we get 4th.
Its kids level decision making. He’d got there. All he had to do was let it hit him and its cleared. That would mean Gvardiol would have a small sense of defensive nous then though.
Or a defence coach?Have we got a set piece coach?
"One of the most embarrasing people on the internet" is a badge you should wear with honour.I think it was a team of footballers who have had to show more fortitude and discipline than any of us will ever know to reach their level. I think that was the gist and he might walk. I don’t want him to but I think he is considering it now after watching that.Well of course it wasn’t a normal interview, none of them are at the mo!
He didn’t say he’d tried everything and couldn’t fix it though.
He was well capable of clearing it. You think a proper defender would try and back heel it? FFS were not in training, this is a real game. Great header for the goal but hes a total liability in defence. Why didn't Gvardiol clear that Diallo effort off the line? Even if he had to use his "wrong" foot.
I read somewhere that matchday ticket revenue, including seasoncards, are a very minor part of a top club's income. And that they could still make money playing in an empty stadium. It's simply that empty grounds wouldn't look good on the telly. Remember lockdown? All those banners placed over the empty seats? No we do not pay their wages.
Dipperpool havent won 6 out of 7 Pls, or 4 in a row PLs, or won the CL, or been in a CL semi,or won the ECC or the WCC.Liverpool played one more competitive match than us last season?
Exactly what i'd like to see. I think Pep's form for being stubborn is coming home to roost. Still a god in my eyes but drastic measures needed now.Trying to think constructively I think the confidence is so badly shot in the defence that extreme measures are needed until reinforcements can be brought in... So how could we change the mood a bit with what we have now.
Half the problem is our slow predictability, so if nothing else, some change of structure might buy us time.
Thinking radically...
Goal Keeper - Ederson's skilset only works if we are controlling the possession. Ortega is a miles better 'basic' goalkeeper so I'd bring him in straight away. He'd be No 1 for the rest of the season for me.
Defence - I'd drop the entire defence apart from Dias, I'd play the EDS/U23 defence ( with Dias ). The should know each other and be full of running if nothing else.
Midfield - I'd play KDB out wide and be telling him to fire in as many diagonal passes as possible from just inside the half way line and try and connect with Haaland who is making runs but never recieves the ball. Kev can't be box to box any more, so let him use the ball (like we used to!).
I'd play Grealish/Gundo as a 10 up the middle supporting Haaland. (We could also look at bringing back Delap for this).
Kovatic/Stones should be in the conventional holding MF role.
Bernardo/Foden should be given the licence to play Kova and Grealish.
Doku or Savinho to fill the last MF spot but they need to be more direct.
Will this happen with Pep in charge... will it fuck...
Fucking happy clapper. They were spineless.I think it was a team of footballers who have had to show more fortitude and discipline than any of us will ever know to reach their level.
