Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Clearly both Palmer and Rodgers weren't good enough to nail down a place whilst they were here. Both would struggled with us suffering a lack of confidence too.

Klopp didn't either. Livepool haven't changed much and are still reliant on Salah.Liverpool are far far more resilient

Klopp didn't either. Livepool haven't changed much and are still reliant on Salah. Fergusson neither ventured too far and he had total control on first team matters.

Ferguson was both pragmatic and ruthless and would chop and change, our form is on par with Southampton and neither of those managers would just continue doing what we have seen the last 12 games

Grealish doesn’t offer anything, as much as a nice Guy around the club and off the pitch he offers absolutely nothing , the fact he hasn’t scored a goal for a whole calendar month is frankly shocking , either play him through the middle Pep or get rid.

Harrwood belis is better than akanji. Has a better fitness record than stones.
Doyle is better than gundo.
Lavia would easily get in out midfield.
Delap would be an excellent alternative to a sulky haaland

Etc etc etc
Lavia is always injured ffs.
Delap wasn’t needed the season he was allowed to leave.
Same with Palmer.
Doyle is at Wolves.
Harrwood Bellis wouldn’t even be being discussed if we didn’t have 4 centre halves injured ffs.

The revision regarding the ones who have left is embarrassing. They weren’t missed for that couple of seasons as we’ve been successful and they weren’t going to all wait around.
Sooner people stop complaining about the ones who left the better.

I am normally so cool and backing the club and manager on here through thick and thin, But I have had enough
BIG SHOUT to the fans today, Loud and Proud and got right behind the team and still sing their hearts out

I hate watching players ghosting at any level and let's get it right here highly paid players at the best club in the past 10 years, World-Class players ghosting in a city shirt does not sit well with me

The Boys in Blue did give in. I can say no more about that, sorry.
However the fans in Blue did not give in they supported until the bitter end. Thank you fans, thank you.

I shall now retire and just ponder on what has happened.
I will not though condemn the team or Pep. To me they have still got a lot left in the bank from the past few years.
They are City as I am City.
We’ll be back soon. :-)

John Boy I am sorry you are injured again. I’m still on your side though. :-)

I think most supporters are Sheila, but he can't catch a break atm or stay fit.

Superb player saddled with injury issues .

Are you any more clued up on this? Never heard it before.

Field tilt is where the game was played, eg mostly in Villa's half; defensive action height is essentially how far away from your goal your defensive line is (not entirely that, but close enough). From that, you can see we played a higher line, played in their half and didn't do that much. Our press in the second half was...shocking

Lock Haaland away til we start playing well again. Pointless him even playing when we are like this

Guardiola has achieved winning 4 titles in a row, something both Wenger and Ferguson had failed to do.

Everton play Chelsea tomorrow so any excuses about tiredness on Boxing Day can fuck right off.
Pep takes the plaudits when we win so carries the can when we lose. This can’t go on much longer. We are in free fall , either Pep works it out or walks. It’s that simple.

For me teams have worked out how poor our high line is. Anyone with an ounce of pace can beat it. Not helped one bit by the midfield having no pace and not supporting either the forwards or defence. Gundogan and Kovacic haven't worked as a pair at all. Added to this is the lack of chances created by our wide players. For instance, today, why did grealish and Bernardo not get a cross in once they had beaten the defender. Always seem to have to wait for the defender to get back.
Anyway I am now off to work until 1am tomorrow as management helpfully changed my shift so I could watch today's shit show

I think that's sensible.
We simply don't have a Rodri to organize our midfield so why play a system that is risky without him.?
Teams are no longer afraid of City so concentrate on defending then we may be the ones benefitting from a breakaway goal.

Spot on

We are not earning the right to get a bit of luck in the games

Team lacks pace, physical strength, desire, and in some cases ability…a recipe for disaster. Villa constantly played around us, through us and just knocked us over, same as previous weeks

2-1 Man City

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We played a really good first half, and the second half we dropped, we were not good. The tempo as the game goes on is a bit more difficult. Congratulations Aston Villa on the victory."

On whether he thinks City will find results: "Yeah. It can come, it can not come. It depends on us. The solution is bring the players back. We have just one central defender fit, that is difficult. We are going to try next game - another opportunity and we don't think much further than that."

On whether there are deeper reasons for poor results other than injuries: "Of course there are more reasons. We concede the goals we don't concede in the past, we [don't] score the goals we score in the past. Football is not just one reason. There are a lot of little factors.

"Aston Villa are a team that are doing well in the Champions League, Premier League as well. It is a tough place to come. Last season we won the Premier League, but we came here and lost. We have to think positive and I have incredible trust in the guys. Some of them have incredible pride and desire to do it. We have to find a way, step by step, sooner or later to find a way back."

When I was younger I could do sixty press ups straight off the bat, that counts for fuck all these days I am out of breath running for the bus.
