Everton (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I am thinking of quitting the forum, so many negative comments from people who have no experience of getting through tough times. Get a life! We have a good chance of getting back among the top four within a month if we can get players fit again, and it only takes a couple of wins to get back up there, we are not going to win the Premier League this time but get behind the team or fuck off
The only injured players that are guaranteed starters are Rodri and Dias. I know we have lots of injuries but the issue at the moment is lack of performances from “first team” players who just aren’t up to it anymore.

No chance if he's young, uninjured, and capable of running forward with the ball.
Is he? Have you seen him play, do you know how he’ll adapt to a new strange country at a young age, do you know his personality. Me neither, yet you have opinions on which young players are ready and which aren’t.
So tell us why does Pep choose to play and trust some young players and not others? Is it because he knows them and which can cope and which can’t ?

You said he is not livid at taking his wages , sounded much like you called him mercenary

the lack of respect to kev is astounding , taking bits of gossip and saying that is what he is thinking or doing when we know kev inside out and how much he enjoys being here and tries his best , playing injured , trying to help the team

All professional sportspeople are mercenaries Karen. They play for the highest bidder.

They're as loyal as their last contract allows them to be.

Don't kid yourself that players genuinely love the clubs they play for. Be satisfied that most will have fond memories.

I have come to the conclusion that this year is a year of jubilee for the team.
Every thing that could go wrong is going wrong with us.
Let’s turn up, enjoy the ride and stop tearing down our boys.
These same boys have brought many happy memories to us. Let’s support them during this difficult period.

I see FIFA’s campaign for better reffing features our disallowed goal. Their conclusion? Not offside.

Where did you read that? I was sort of surprised at the game, but VAR doesn’t often work in our favour, and the screens don’t show it from the right angles to confirm the VAR decision. If there is a genuine report…may be a good read.

He should have done.
Interesting,

Sort of thought, will it be a red but obvs not as not last man or wasn't violent upon seeing the replay.

However, a foul in the box conceding a pen must be a yellow?

Is it regularly not given as a second yellow because of tge doubt jeopardy or was it a case of the usual "City rules" being applied?

Are you seriously dismissing the last 4 years? You would rather have had your 3 players than the ones we had during our historic run?
I am not dismissing anything, its okay we're bad this season after all we won, ur argument is just bad though

He does seem very resistant to change for some reason, high line is the most glaring example. Seems like a reasonably easy fix not to bomb 10 forward and leave a whole half for the opposition to run into, yet here we are week after week :(

I hope you are right about a return to form blue.
This is dependent on Pep. It's not the high line that's the issue, it's that we've got 2 CB's & a No 6 operating as a defensive 3, with acres of grass either side of them.

If the ball gets chipped into either left or right space, & two forwards attack centrally, we've got an instant 4 v 3, with City stretched & back pedaling. We've been found out with a system that only seems to work with a fit Rodri as No 6. Most times he's been absent with this formation, it's been disastrous for us.

Pep needs to set is up for the players we have available, not in preparation for Rodri's return next August at the earliest. Even then it'll probably take him a season to get back to form & fitness if ever.

Over to Baldy! \0/

Playing the high line is killing us, as is the 3 when Rico makes his move. It’s been evident since we started conceding the ‘one shot, one goal’ on the break, all due to the high line and width available, the difference being in days gone by we would mostly outscore anyone. It’s no coincidence we became more solid with the 4 adaptable centre backs which we’ve not played since either because Pep has gone off it or due to the massive injury list? Teams have gone from sitting deep and hoping for a break or two to sitting deep and having a game plan of looking for any gap to get at us once we’ve made the usual camp in their half. This coupled with our inability to cope with the bigger , faster, stronger players everyone else seems to have acquired and our awfully slow attacking play feeds right into every other team’s hands . For me we’ve been well and truly sussed out and even with Rodri may have still suffered. The other obvious reason is our creative players hitting that brick wall of age/injury/tiredness all at the same time, how we’re crying out for a peak Kev or Merlin to orchestrate our attacks.

I'm not so much troubled by the idea of a high line, it's the gaps we're leaving which the opposition are exploiting game after game, with no reaction from Pep that seriously concerns me.

This is why I've been crying out for us to go back to our formative 4-3-3 roots, & defend first. We've enough high quality players to get through this, even with the injuries, but essentially playing 3 at the back with acres of wide defensive space for opposition Road Runner speed merchants to run into, is costing us game after game.

In terms of our attack, every team we face has two CB's glued to Haaland & a CDM in front of him to cut off the supply route. Teams fear Doku, BUT they know he's defensively weak & that not even his level of trickery can handle 3 deep-lying players marking him.

To make matters worse, even opposition fans recognise what our issues are & how their teams can capitalise on them. Their coaching teams evidently know the same, and so should our coaching team. This is why it beggars belief why we keep doing the same thing game in, game out, expecting a different result.

We need to scrap the inverted FB tactic, revert to a 4-3-3 with a flat back four, with overlapping FB's to compliment our inverted wingers. I've heard fans lament over Foden & Silva's drop in form, but WTF are they expected to do in a congested space, with 7 opposition players surrounding the 18 yard box in front of them, & 7 of our players trying to find space around the same 18 yard box to complicate matters?

We stack the central areas, & neglect our own defensive wide areas, & it's killing us. It's so predictable how we'll be countered, it's like fucking ground hog day! I love Pep & want no other manager, but this situation is now beyond a joke.

Aside from the opening 20 minutes against Everton, Guardiola's showing few signs he's willing to go back to basics to arrest our slide. I'd seriously love to know what's going on inside that famed Bald head? Everyone else is seeing what Pep & the coaching staff can't?
