West Ham (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

And who said we will play like this? The clue in my post was building confidence. And that’s what we will be doing.

I’ll put my head on a platter now and say we will get 7 points from those games.
You're an optimistic and I get it(to a point) and my new years resolution is not to get into barney's over City but....

If we had bet on your predictions over the last couple of months we would all be living under a bridge:-)

Fingers crossed though:-)

I never said I wasn’t happy. Is Pep happy? If we dominated the match, made no mistakes, played like we can play, kept a clean sheet, and won 1-0, I’d be happier. The final result is masking numerous issues, and Pep called them out. If Pep isn’t happy with the performance, why should the fans be with the performance? The 4-1 win was very flattering to City.
And long may we continue to enjoy flattering wins !
How did you think the game was going to go ? Play shit and lose 3-1 ? Play scrappily and win 4-1 or play brilliantly and win 6-0 ? I suggest that we all thought before ko it was going to be a dodgy performance but with luck and a bit of skill here and there, we might get the 3 points.

The most important thing was another 3 points. Aside, we were mostly rubbish and even more rubbish WH. Savvy is emerging as an important player. We have to score at least twice to win a game as the defence is so poor. Sadly Gundo has lost it. KDB does not have the same impact but imo still worth his place. I guess it should be3 wins on the bounce after the Salford City match but I take nothing for granted anymore.

The win is great.

Savio and erling link up is great.

That’s it tho. The rest was piss poor and of very low standard.

We don’t pass easily, we gave the ball away and we have no legs to recover.

As pep said, we have never been a transition team but we used to keep the ball for fun and have teams tied up in knots.

So much work to do. This is not the city we know.

A win is a win and that is all that matters today.

Problems? We have a lot.

Early signings would be great.
Lol "early signings"??? Don't you mean long drawn out, back and forwards, protracted sagas? Before we sign the third choice or "walk away", "dodging a bullet" in the process.

Haha fair enough lol

It was fairly predictable that once a few wins on board he would be more honest. He does that all the time, never lays in when team losing. Ever.
I agree with you, but several times before Pep has said that we played beautifully, probably sarcasm, but it wasn't the same match that I'd seen. At least today, I agreed with him.

4-1 West Ham

Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports: “We won a game, still we are not at our best but winning will help us. We had good moments but I’ve been here eight years and we have seen the team playing and it is not at our standards. Still we have to find our tempo and the way we want to play. West Ham played good and had chances.

On Savinho: “He made a lucky goal and made a good action after. The third goal was brilliant with the assist. He is delivering really well."

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "No [we are not back in the groove]. It is happier to win but we are still not like we were for different reasons. The result will help. We struggle but it is a release."

On Savinho: "He was brilliant. He is one of the few that is fresh. There were glimpses of brilliance. The work ethic was unbelievable but still not the composure. We accelerate everything. We have struggled with results recently but the last two victories is good and we did not lose for three. I would say a month and half [of poor form] compared with eight years is not bad."

On having the clinical touch: "Absolutely. We were lucky with the first goal, they were better in the first minutes we could have gone zero one or zero two. The second goal helped us, it was an incredible goal but we are still not like we were."

One point behind Newcastle, who are getting plaudits for 5 wins in a row!

Half a season to go and we are now winning games 4-1 that should have been about 6-4, whereas that would have been 2-3 a month ago!!

All that mattered was the win. But I will be seriously peed off if we turn up at Brentford in 1.5 weeks with the same team. The midfield is embarrassing out of possession. We need a new defensive midfielder yesterday. And the drop off when Walker and Gundogan came on was ridiculous. We have the win, let’s strengthen now and get top
4. Because this squad as it is wont.

3 points but like Leicester last week, scoreline flattered us. If they were half decent in finishing it could have been so different.
Desperately need reinforcements esp midfield as if he persists with this line up, tactics and baffling subs we will lose more than we will win. Worrying he cannot see how Walker and Gundog are severely past their best and weaken us enourmously
Agreed. A decent side would have beaten us 5-4.

The point isn’t we could have lost after winning, it’s the chances we are giving the other teams, and the constant silly mistakes, bad passes, etc, players are making. If the players keep on making those same mistakes week after week, better finishers, and better teams will punish City. As Pep has just said, City could have been 0-2 down before City scored. That is Pep, not the fans.
We have already seen this, this very season. Some of us were saying this when we were unbeaten and top of the table after 9 games. All the worrying signs were already there. Some refuse to see what is right in front of them…it makes them better City fans or something.

Now seeing these past 3 games the Savinio we thought he might be.
Akanji’s worst game for us.
Some big upcoming games to deal with.

Glad Bowen wasn’t playing…

A win is a win. Plenty of positives (mainly Savinho, Kovacic and Haaland) to be taken from it. A few bad points but that’s to be expected.

I’m just glad we saw some quick, incisive, attacking football and we actually used Haaland in all areas of the build up.
