West Ham (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

A little lucky WHU didn't score early in the 1st half. Type of luck we haven't had a whole lot the last two months. Still, sometimes luck is created. Some issues still need to be worked on but I'd rather have results and average play than no results and average play.

Confidence is a beautiful thing. Savio looked like last year's Savio.

Well i am going to rejoice in the win , you moaning twats !

We all know the problems but crying non stop in match threads is not going to make it happen
That's the spirit.

Also, I only post when we're winning.

agree with this every game no wonder the defence struggles at times. It’s the midfield we sort that and we will be back to our best.

The reality is it isn't that new

Look at the goals we were conceding last season, a lot looked pretty identical to each other, teams catching us in possession and we're unable to get numbers back. We got away with it more because we had a bit more legs but now we don't.

The warning signs were there last season I thought. There was a period where almost every goal we conceded looked identical.

I think it's almost unavoidable in the way we attack. Look how far we push the whole team up when we have possession. It's obviously been very successful but it also requires complete control, little room for error in terms of losing the ball and you need the legs to recover, which isn't really the case this season.

If we keep playing our usual attacking style while in possession, I don't see much changing until we get some new quality and fresher legs in the side.

What he said!We are no longer a team that can get away with camping in the opponents half because the legs are no longer there to recover, once the inevitable slack pass has found the wrong shirt. We used to keep the ball quite easily for 20/40 passes,..now it’s more like 10/20,and not that easily either!?Tactics or personnel have to change now..simple as that.

2 Wins on the bounce and hell has apparently frozen over judging by the weather outside

As we were winning and of course eventually won, did everyone stay in the ground until the players were off the pitch? Or did we still have early leavers? :-) ;-
You do not stay to the very end if you rely on the Metrolink as your transportation.

I left at 4 minutes of the 6 added. (To suffer that pile of shit called Metrolink).

What pissed me off was the persistence of playing the ball round at the back with Ortega the main man. It doesn’t work when the players are incapable of finding a person wearing the same coloured top.

Akanji was by far and away the worst culprit.

Because we were 4-0 up and Kovacic was on a yellow?
Rico O'Riley and JimMc after 55/60 minutes.

Pep consistantly bemuses me with the timing and choice of subs/in- game management, particularily in a match situation like yesterday.

2 subs with a combined age of 70 and no running power v 2 with a combined age of 40 who can run like Powderhall sprinters !!

Call me old fashioned if you like,but........... ??

Apologies if this has been covered, but I've scrolled through the last few pages and haven't seen it mentioned...

Can anyone in the East Stand confirm if KDB had words with some fans who were getting at Walker in the second half? It happened fairly late on, I think around the time Walker needlessly gave the ball away taking a free kick. KDB was definitely shouting something towards fans sat on that side, but I was too far away to make out what was said and the only thing I could think of was that it was in response to some abuse Walker was getting. Interested to know if anyone caught what he was saying.
I think KDB has a bee in his bonnet about something, he’s throwing his arms about a lot, seems to be waving his arms at the crowd, something between him and Pep as well, at half time Pep went on the pitch to him instead of going down the tunnel.

Not getting a contract offer I would say.

I think KDB is getting frustrated at what is happening as the players are only human after all. He maybe heard someone shout something not very nice at Walker and like anyone might has lost his temper a bit.
Let’s face it the players are not automatons, they don’t go out on the pitch thinking I’m going to play badly today. They are just as frustrated and upset as we are.
JMHO

I think the penultimate paragraph of your post precisely sums up what is required to play in a team managed by Pep. Quite simply the system depends on the players being perfect or at the very least near perfect for it to work. Any drop off results in the problems we have seen with our midfield and defence this season and to a much lesser extent over previous seasons.

Just watched the KDB post match interview, I think there maybe a bit of ill feeling between players and supporters, we are obviously all pissed off at this season but he’s right in his comments of what we have achieved over the last 10 years is phenomenal, had we won a title every other year and the odd cup I don’t think people would be as annoyed at this season. However especially in the last 4 years what the team has done is nothing short of a miracle, no one else has every done it, we have been spoiled and myself included have behaved a bit like a spoiled child at times not getting what they want.
Had we dropped off after the treble I think most would’ve accepted it but because we won 4 in a row everyone expects it to last forever, it doesn’t. This season is a wake up call that they are human and they can lose, just accept it enjoy your matchdays and next year we no doubt will be back up there.

Well said. We are lucky and we will be like a phoenix and rise from the ashes. JMHO.

Funnily enough I enjoyed the end to end nature of the game. In fact with our front 3 we benefit in an attacking sense. Foden, Haaland and Savinho would terrorise any defence, especially given space to run into.
What we needed behind them was a pacy, strong midfielder to break up the counter attacks. We had no-one capable of that role.

Pep, will see it differently. He mentioned 1000s of passes, slow build up.
