Club World Cup - Summer 2025

Hi - I got into a River league game no problem by signing up as an international member and then just buying a ticket. Boca you have no choice but to go via an agency as there is something like a 10 year waiting list for tickets. By Argentinian standards it's pricey but the one I used had us all meet for pizza and beers beforehand, bussed us to the ground and back etc. I'm not sure about whether the ultra sections (effectively the end behind both goals) are locals only. I suspect they may be season ticket holders only. TBH I only tried for tickets on the side so I could watch the mayhem rather than be part of it. Pre-match is a problem as there is no alcohol allowed within a certain distance of the stadium (I think 1 km but may be wrong) so it's not like going to Spain where you can stand on the corner at a bar with the locals and then stroll over. Atmosphere wise 80,000+ at River was amazing (although Echeverri was awful and was hooked at half time!), Boca was good but my favourites were probably Racing and Independiente. San Lorenzo was also good and the stadium is majestic but is so wide open that the songs don't resonate as much as the more enclosed grounds.
That's a top post. What was it about Racing and Santander that made them so good? And which Spanish teams would you recommend to watch (if you dont mind me asking)?

Hard to say isn't it, I've tried to attach vids but they're too big. Essentially best singing round the whole stadium I guess. I've been to Madrid for a non-City Champs league game plus El Classico at Barca but they're a whole different kettle of fish. Other than City at both Madrid teams and Sevilla I have otherwise only been to games in Andalucia - Betis, Granada and Almeria. The weather certainly helps but the 1st two plus Sevilla just have bars all round the adjoining streets full of locals enjoying a cana and a tapa which I just really enjoyed. Even Almeria whose ground is in a soulless edge of town location had one bar jam packed where you got tapas with every round you ordered and the atmosphere was just terrific.

Well I’ve pulled the trigger, flying from Manchester Philly via Heathrow on 16th having 3 nights, then train to NY for 3 nights coming back on the 22nd. I’m staying central city in Philly and manhattans near Empire State. I’ve got my City ticket in upper tier via the club link. Going to watch the NY Yankees on the Saturday play Baltimore, hey sister has jumped on the trip so makes the hotels cheaper she’s no interest in City but we are both buzzing to go now.

Just out of interest (and obviously only share if you don’t mind) what is that coming in at cost wise? Travel/hotels/train/tickets? I looked at flights to America in the summer and they were pretty high!

£540 each for flights with hand luggage only with BA, Philly hotel is £570 but we need two beds so it’s about £30 more than normal, £520 for 3 nights in NY. Not booked train yet but it’s about $20 each one way. Paid $89 for my City ticket and we can get Yankees tickets for as cheap as $44 nit booked that yet just sudsing about best seats for the price. So looking at £1100 before tickets and spending money for 6 nights with flights, tbh I don’t think it’s that bad, I’ll probably spend around £100 a day or budget for that as well.

Yes pal, just can’t do more time away with family at home, always wanted to go to Philadelphia I’m going to run up the Rocky steps! It’s been in my bucket list forever, do some sight seeing, always wanted to go to a baseball game and ye I know it’s the Yankees but the timing is just right for that game, I’ve been to NY a few times but I want to visit the 9/11 museum, depending on what my sister wants to do we will just chill and take it all in.

Sounds great!

Wasn’t Independiente Sergio’s club?
I went to a game at Independiente in 2011. The stadium was being redeveloped at the time, mostly the four corner stands. This is my pic of the outside where they had a big Sergio tribute. The club lived off his transfer fee to Atletico Madrid for some time. He was, and still is appreciated there.

I’ve booked business class return Manchester - New York and then Orlando to Manchester with Aer Lingus (11 nights at various Hilton hotels) tickets for 3 City games and 2 other group games, 3 Amtrak trains and 2 internal flights and coppers change out of £4000

I once went to a Copa Lib game between Bolivar and Boca in La Paz.
Boca fans turned up at midday for an 8pm kick off and packed the away end, singing, letting off fireworks etc etc on a non-stop loop
Absolute mentalists throughout the game too, despite the altitude and oxygen deprivation
Atmosphere was better than anything Ive ever seen or been part of in Europe

That MONSTER clash with Al Ain is 20 mins from me and the night before my birthday - think I’ll be treating myself, but risking waiting until later this year as I don't think they’ll sell those packages too quickly ..

Yep I’ve been to games in loads of European countries and it’s just different over there. Unfortunately I now have a list of half a dozen countries I’d like to see a game in!

Question for American cousins, it’s a while since I’ve been to USA, obviously cash is king to buy food etc, unlike the uk it seems if I use my debit card I’ll get a surcharge! Also if I withdraw cash from an ATM I get charged, so what’s the best way to get and pay for things I don’t want to be carrying huge amounts of cash around or leaving it in my hotel room. Also what’s the score with tipping I’ve seen people saying 18-25% which is fucking outrageous unless it’s a sit down meal.

That sounds incredibly cheap !

It's outrageous even for a sit down meal IMHO. I used to go to NY a lot around 20yrs ago and 15% was considered the norm if you were satisfied with the service and I thought that was high but 25% is just silly IMHO.

I was in the US at Christmas. Transferred some funds to my UK Chase account for card payments and paid no additional fees and charges.
