Im glad we are getting these 2 young defenders, but we can stop there in terms of potential for the backline, as we also have Calum Doyle for the left side.

The next defender we go for should be one who is in their prime years (23 - 26) impressing at the highest level consistently.

Wilfried Singo from Monaco or Ousmane Diomande from Sporting.

These 2 are fast monsters who are proven.

I’d love Diomande but not sure if we will deal with Sporting. People think we will with Viana coming in, but I think it will be the opposite personally.

Hello everyone,

Lens fan here.

I come to tell you about Khusanov, maybe you don't know him well.
(forgive my bad english !!)

Khusanov strengths :

1) Physical strength !

Khusanov is very, very strong physically. Here an example :

Against Jonathan David, Lille, derby of north :

2) Speed !
He runs very fast, here an example of defensive run :

3) Tackles
Many slide tackles, very satisfying to watch.

4) Mindset
He is a very brave and a very determined player. If he has to take a shot right in the head to prevent a goal, he won't hesitate for a second. Courageous player.

In Lens, all players said they were impressed by his strength, even Kevin Danso, who is an extremely solid defender.

Weaknesses now :

1) Fouls

So strong and courageous that sometimes he goes too far. Yellow cards, one red card and some penalties given here in Lens. Example of red here against PSG :

2) Technique
Don't get me wrong, Khusanov is not bad at all - actually his passes are quite good, especially long passes - but he needs to step up for a top class club like Man City. Stop making fouls while defending.

Head game, he's decent, but that's not his main quality. Sometimes a bit surprised by long aerial balls.

In short :

Khusanov is a great recruit for the future. Very strong defensively. Can play at 3 or at 4 defenders, he played in both systems with Lens, so he is already polyvalent. He arrived in a very effective defence (the best in Ligue 1 at the time) and gradually earned his place with high level perfomances, putting the usual starter on the bench. I can not see him as a Man City starter right now, but step by step, why not next year ? I strongly believe in him.

Well, I'm done. If you have any question on Khusanov, feel free to ask.

Last thing :
Beat PSG please !!!

merci beaucoup

I think under Guardiola we have generally had quite a large number of strong/fast players its just that this season they've got injured/old a bit simultaneously.
A backline containing Dias Walker Akanji Stones etc is not exactly small add Rodri in midfield Haaland and DeBruyne up front. Generally plenty of physicality just this season to many of them are injured out of form or older.
I feel like there's a bit of rewriting of history. A few poor months and the game has passed us by, as if we haven't won the last four titles, and 6 of the last 7, including a treble.

The game has changed underneath us, as the age of the technically brilliant, but slower, less strong, smaller players who made us successful, has increased to (beyond?) the tipping point.

The modern game is to not only be able to make a crisp 10 yard pass, but to have the size, speed and strength to physically dominate your opponent, too.
We have physical players all over the pitch. it's just a mixture of players ageing out and injuries.

At each respective peak:
Walker - Absolutely rapid, also big and strong.
Dias - Physically big and super strong.
Stones, Akanji and Aké - all quick and physical.
Rodri - Massive and very strong.
de Bruyne - Quick and physical.
Nunes - Quick and physical.
Foden - Quick.
Doku - Rapid.
Savinho - Quick.
Haaland - Absolutely rapid, huge and strong.

At each respective peak:
Walker - Professional shagger. Concentrating on patching up marriage.
Dias - Concentrating on nailing that rocket fit Maya Whatserface. Don't blame him.
Stones, Akanji and Aké - Made of glass. Terrible footballer. Made of Glass (rerspectively).
Rodri - Very professionally, cynically hatcheted by Arsenal.
de Bruyne - Plays like a player who is angry that his body won't do the things that it once could.
Nunes - Lovely guy (it would seem). Terrible purchase.
Foden - Went on holiday in June 2024, not seen since.
Doku - Tricky, slippery, can't cross or shoot.
Savinho - Terrible on the right. Not bad on the left. 3rd choice on the left.
Haaland - When he's good he's unstoppable. When he's not it's like playing with 10 men. In his defence he doesn't get the service he should.
