The LA Wildfires

I think there might well be some claims against the local authorities as well as insurance companies.

I think, as I intimated earlier, the local authorities are binded by private firms that have created the agreement mentioned before.

So, if the l.a. are sued, they will look to the billionaire lobby groups.

It's gonna be really, really messy.

Looters dressed as firemen? What is the world coming too, it's disgraceful.

So, without me reading the article, California is a state that's known (or not depending on where you get your info) to get prisoners/ felons to act as firemen because they are very understaffed in this dept.

I don't know if there are conflated stories or buck passing going on with with things, right now, designed for distraction.

There was a story about looting being filmed banded about on TikTok, viewed almost 9M times, before it was addressed as a local TV news article on family helping move items from a home due to the wildfires.

I'd be careful on these type of stories being totally accurate.

A natural disaster is by definition nature. But some of the human nature we are seeing in LA is diabolical. Home and health insurers cancelling policies, arsonists, hotels quadrupling prices, looting, some of it allegedly involving firefighters, no water in fire hydrants due to budget cuts, and so on. It is a grim picture.

But there are also stories of great heroism and helping of strangers to go alongside that.

But, this is unfettered capitalism at play, arsonists aside, where there's a desire to make money in some way.

Sure, making money is glorious for some, but at the behest of saving money, cutting corners, losing lives and making citizens homeless?

Not a fan.

This is true — stat I saw — about 1,000 firefighters are prisoners (mostly doing routine clean up, digging breaks, things like that). And while CalFire is probably understaffed, note of course that events like this force the department to flex up size-wise, like an army draft in times of war.

Don’t think they were prepared enough For a worse case scenario. They shouldn’t be making cuts to any emergency services

I dunno about the 'preparation' part of your post.

I hesitated to post this because of the leanings of this character. However, the first 14 mins make a lot of sense and ties in to a lot of what I've been looking into on both sides of the left and right aisle of media.

I wouldn't listen to anything going into the 15th min onwards as he goes on a tangent and I can't be arsed with that.

Over the last five years or so, the firefighting budget has almost doubled from 2bn in 2019 to 3.8 bn now. Looking at one particular year is not a good appraisal.
Trump, of course, says global warming is a hoax.

Serious question , is Kristine Larson's salary included in that 2024 figure?

I am bemused when people think that global warming is a hoax however more so when people attribute , hurricanes , tornado's , earthquakes , wildfires and volcano eruptions both in frequency and intensity on human C02 generation activity such as burning coal and gas to generate electricity as if we wouldn't have these events to the same degree if we didn't.

Bushfires , cyclones , heavy rainfall , floods , droughts, earthquakes etc were long standing before we built our first coal fired power station both in frequency and intensity many times over many years more so.

What we have got much better at is responding to these events and proofing ourselves for the countless events to come before the Sun has no more hydrogen.

The climate is a complex beast , whose many mysteries that still exist like why people contract cancer of some sort and dementia of some sort of if they live ling enough who answer lies well beyond , geophysics , geology , astrophysics , meteorology and yes the myriad of climate " scientists employed by the governments of the day to scrap for grants to research , oceanographers and the list goes on and on and on.

What is the impact of water on climate on the only planet in our solar system that currently supports life , the sun , the oceans , mountains , earths changing orbit around the sun , the atmosphere , our magnetic field and the list goes on.

if its true that post industrial revolution we have gone from 2.8ppm to 4.1ppm of CO2 in our atmosphere is man burning coal and gas is the sole / main cause if at all in the increase in average global temperature since 1870 given all the knowledge explained and not explained we have on the many factors that impact climate and the lack of knowledge that still exists on how all those factors interact.

if so why do we through the UN and other bodies continue to place little pressure if any on China and India to go nuclear?

Did you know water vapor is commonly regarded these days as a greenhouse gas?

Trump is very foolish for thinking the climate does not change but in geological terms all the best data and evidence to date suggests that a planet that was much cooler and I mean much cooler even cooler than our moon is for half its orbital and rotational cycle when Co2 levels in the atmosphere were much larger than most experts state there is now is in some phase of cooling ( with the usual increases along the way ).

He just wants to get out of the Paris Agreement which to date has achieved little of note other than add a lot to the planets carbon footprint.

Co2 gets a bad wrap IMO , I love it , its plant food and partly responsible for the fact we all still don't live in caves , rubbing sticks together to stay alive , in fact if were not for carbon there would be no sticks at all.

The more CO2 the better as the more people we can feed and to think otherwise is selfish and self -centered and condemning the poor to more misery.

As to how we power all developed nations and emerging nations into the future that is a debate for another day but one thing I know for sure is that relying on wind , sun and batteries alone to achieve it will send you back into those caves.

Net Zero don't make me laugh , what would concern me more is how we respond to the next global pandemic far more virulent than Covid or if Yellowstone was to unleash its fury.

Now Yellowstone would cause some significant climate change both short and long term but I wouldn't blame it us naughty humans building coal and gas power stations on the earths surface would you?

I’ll check it out.

Watching the BBC Documentary it seems many aren’t insured against fire as it’s in a fire zone so can’t be, also sone insurance saying it’s an act of God to get out of paying, wait until they try that with floods over here.

Whether it's a fire or a flood it seems in certain areas people can't live like generations before them did.

I'm hoping that civil engineers figure out "nature-resilient" structures and lifestyles because the global situation is impossible to resolve.

For example, people in vulnerable areas need to almost be nomadic so should they keep all their important personal possessions in safe boxes far away and resist the urge to customise their houses. Or have very movable stuff with defined exit procedures. Just a thought.
Or a basement they can chuck stuff in with a steel/fireproof door so any sentimental or valuable stuff can be saved.

We need to pay WAY more taxes, so that the gouvernment can tell the weather God to be kind to us.

Same as we do over here in hurricane season. We have go-bags with all our personal doc's (passports, certificates, insurance docs, banking stuff, etc), cash, credit cards, phone chargers, torches, batteries and an NOAA weather channel radio. We have some waterproof boxes that all the portable electricals and my camera gear goes in, and some boxes for extra clothes and personal items. I never let the car fuel gauge go below 1/2 a tank. Luckily is just me and Mrs. Tache so it doesn't take long to load up the car meaning we are pretty much ready to clear out within 30 minutes or so of getting the call to evacuate.
