It’s not though. He’s been invisible at times both for us and in his Sheffield United spell. Right now it’s fair to say average at this level at this stage.

HOWEVER…he’s clearly a talent. He’s in desperate need of minutes in a cohesive team and not dead minutes like vs West Ham or in a makeshift cup side.

We either put him in now and accept we’ll be worse for it short term or we sell him to a good footballing side and install a buy back.

He is more of that ghost around the box the goals he scored showed that and that's his best position!? Maybe where Alvarez played but Alvarez worked a hell of a lot more! Pressing by him and Foden has never been great and why Bob was a massive miss..

I completely disagree mate. How can you properly judge him on his appearances for us. He’s barely played. It was his first start in 10 weeks against Salford. How’s any player meant to show consistency with no starts

Sheffield United were terrible, yet he still stood out.

I don’t agree with your last point. Why would we be worse off, bringing him off the bench or starting him in the odd game? (no one’s expecting him to start every week). Do you really not rate him that much?

We weren’t worse off when he came on against Leicester.

You are literally looking at everything I said as a negative there.

The fact is he can’t grow playing like he has been.

For him to show his promise he’ll need to go or be played.

Sure. Point at Leicester. But you ignore West Ham.

West Ham isn’t his fault either, but when you get 20 mins and we are coasting that’s exactly what happens and it isn’t good for him.

Take a step back and look at palmer. He said he wanted to go out on loan for a season. We insisted on selling him. We shouldn’t make that mistake here so if we don’t give him a starting spot or a good rotation one then it makes sense to have him play lots of minutes somewhere decent.

We haven’t seen enough of McAtee to know how good he can be really, but it costs us nothing to keep him and he deserves the chance to make it with us. We don’t want another Palmer mistake where we lost an amazing talent to a rival. Now is a good time to get McAtee involved more and see how good he is with a run of PL games.

Happy for him to be loaned out, if that is us changing our approach that we see a future with him and will give him a proper chance after a bit more experience.

We have let a few slip through the net who would have done a job for us, certainly at the moment. He won't develop into a first teamer as is, little cameos and cup games. He needs minutes, as we have seen with a lot of our talents who now play for good teams. Foden was the one off, he isn't the comparison to use.

Class player and both him and o Reilly should be playing more . If we sell any of these players we will be fucking up big time as they are the future .pep is the greatest manager ever but his biggest flaw is not trusting the young players .
IMHO Nico's ceiling is much higher than that of Rico Lewis...

Why is everyone talking about Gundogan?

He is playing in the DM spot, do people really want McAtee to play there?

Thats ridiculous.

Anyways, I hope he stays, this guy is a killer in the box, and these type of players are so important to keep.

He should only play to rotate in the ST, CAM or RW spots. I think there are minutes there.
This...

There is absolutely no need to sell him. Pep should reassure McAtee that he wants him to stay and fight for his place as part of the squad. In a year or two he may become unsellable or he may not be good enough to play for us but he must be given a chance. If we do decide to srll him in future we'll get good money for him.

Lessons need to be learned by allowing Palmer to leave before giving him a proper chance : /
The lesson of playing a young player in his best position if possible to help him settle at the high level of the 1st team.

How many times was Palmer offered the chance to play as a right sided attacker as he did in every game I saw him play in the youth teams.

I agree with your first point.

Palmer was mostly played on the right wing in our first team. May not be his best(favourite) position, but he didn't do enough to impress when given minutes, and that's why we sold him.

I must of had some sort of brain freeze because I can only think of him playing on the left for the first team.

8-)

I don’t think I am. I’m just trying to understand your rationale behind judging a player who hasn’t played or been given a chance. You can’t really judge him against West Ham on 20 minutes, how is that fair.

I agree on your last point.

We can sell. Just have to be with a buy back clause.

Loaning out is not as useful. When you sell with a buyback clause, you are well protected.

I don't think he is currently as good of a midfielder to help us with the struggles in the middle. But he has something special in the final 3rd.

So let him go develop for 2 years and but back for 65 million

people still advocating for the buyback crap? we haven't benefitted from that even once. Missed out on a ton of lads, too

City fans wanting a very talented local lad, who could save us millions to get given a chance. In what way, is that insane?
You really think he is at the level of Marmoush . Or you'd like to pass on players at that level to give academy lads a chance.

We are the highest level of the sport . Academy lads breaking through will only be for the special ones (foden)

The academy for us isn't based around getting players into the first team .

It's to develop them and sell for a nice profit.

That's the reality . There is nothing romantic about it.
