87 | James McAtee - 2024/25

Well played for our second goal. Keep being patient and his time will come. But let’s hope he does not get carried away with this one cameo performance for 20 minutes.

The reaction from the players may indicate that he does show the goods in training. A few pages back, Pep says he trains well. Well, as some here would say, Pep lies.

Regardless, chuffed for him. Still stand by my previous post here - ‘As they say, pressure makes diamonds. We can’t fully tell if he’s a diamond in the rough or a lacklustre stone to gather dust.’

What he needs to prove that is CONSISTENT game time. Sure, he’ll make mistakes but the senior players do that and have done for a while now. It’s difficult to get into a Pep team as a perceived young player. He’s now 22. Not exactly a kid anymore. Young? Sure but not to the point where he needs hand holding.

I hope this cameo gives him the conviction to prove that he belongs and he can be the very best version of himself on a regular basis.

McAtee brought bravoury into our game, making well places risky passess leading to a goal.
While we remove the risk in passing backwards and sideways, we don't win games as James'.
Please Pep, put him in the starting line, we need his energy to build back better confidence.

If he doesn't get a couple of starts now then he should leave to get game time elsewhere in January.

I'm pretty zen with where we are this season and the current run. Not the worst we've ever seen and we'll come out the other side eventually. What does annoy me is sticking with the same 13 players every single game and not giving the youth a chance. If not now then never. Low and behold a young player comes on (he's not that young anymore) and we look like a completely different team.

I'm going to be fucking furious for the first time in this run if he doesn't start against west ham.

Nice to hear such positive post-match comments from Pep about the contribution McAtee made.

I used Barker as an example of a stellar youth player not making it in the men’s game, not comparing him as a player.

Still, he’s dropped a shoulder and beaten a man, so he’s now world class. I know how the rhetoric goes!
Nobody has ever claimed he's world class. Simply a player with plenty of potential who's capable of playing in the Premier League.

He stepped into today's game and made a huge difference. Hopefully we'll now see more of him and he can continue to have an impact.
