It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

Just sat here musing, crossed my mind that we are not linked to buying anyone whatsoever from a fellow Premiership club.

Coincidence? Maybe it’s not, possible we don’t trust any of them after all the shit that’s gone on and/or don’t want to give any of them a single penny of our funds.
It’s a little known fact that there is zero correlation between a good signing having played in the PL before vs those that have not. Yet pundits quite often say prior PL experience is important. City must know it’s bollocks.

Flipping hell things moving fast. It should come as no surprise, city is big news around the world.

Pep was saying he wanted ready made players 25/26/27 etc

Soriano wanting 18/19/20 etc

Looks like we will see a mix to keep everyone happy. The youth going into defence alongside established pros is a smart move.

The older more refined players like Marmoush coming into the forward line is also clever.

If we get all 3 and a DM then wow what an exciting window.

more likely no club will sell in Jan and if they did the inflated prices they would ask for leaves most clubs unwilling.

I don't think our board would be so petty and stupid to pass up on an asset because of the off pitch issues, if they were then they wouldn't be billionaire businessmen.

Might be right, but over the last few seasons, Chelsea and City have bankrolled the PL, Chelsea are not in a position to do so now. as for assets, there is always another one, and always a better foreign one cheaper.

Maybe we have someone lined up and the club does not want the news coming out?

A lot of clubs have PSR issues and some want to bring in new players but will have to sell first.

The lack or serious rumours on a CM seem weird as it's a priority position, I am certain we will have something lined up.

interesting that Txiki has not gone after a DM first but for a attacker and defenders

With the investment in young defenders, the club might recognise that certain established players (Walker, Stones, Ake) may just not be able to see out their contracts, and the new ones should help ease the burden on Dias and Akanji, thus giving them a better chance of avoiding the same injury plight in the coming seasons that has dogged Stones/Ake.

These young signings that Pep can mould hopefully into something special are great but we are seemingly going to lose a shit load of experience now and in the summer if the rumours are true about the likes of Walker, KDB, Gundo, Stones and maybe Grealish all going? We need to sign some top class 24-27 age group that have played elite level as well to have that blend in the squad?

I imagine of those listed Gundogan may be retained, perhaps even in a coaching capacity, and Grealish, too. However, recent signings suggest that we’re now deliberately targeting younger prospects and not the ready-made stars often fantasised about in here. I think we might sign 2-3 midfielders this summer rather than one finished article.

Huge pressure on them all to perform though mate?

It doesn’t add up to a conspiracy but Villa certainly came under pressure from some clubs not to sell us Jack.

Great business to bring in 2 of the best CB talents around. We have some good defenders proven on the highest level like Dias/Stones/Gvardiol/Akanji/Ake and no immediate need for world class reinforcements in that area, we are mainly hurting because of injuries and no squad depth. A couple of top talents bringing some new energy to our defense, pushing our existing players to perform while also giving us some opportunity to rest/rotate might be exactly what we need in that department. And we never know, their impact could be bigger than that right from the start as well.

Add Marmoush and a quality DM and this January window would be as good as anyone could have hoped for!

As there is with every player. That's why I think they will buy 3 midfield players instead of one. There are pages and pages on here about established stars, but when using the search facility and looking at the first mention of names that actually appear to be coming in, the club is evidently operating in another world: the real one. There may be a little more churn in the coming seasons, as not all youngsters will make it and we clearly cannot rely on a small squad when faced with so many games, but I think it will be refreshing for all involved; us included.

Not sure about that Pep.
The large number of injuries we have had this season to critical players in the heart of midfield and defence is something on another level to be honest.
The only thing he could be critical of himself about is liking a smaller squad and for a whole heap of reasons, especially squad togetherness, that isn't such that bad a thing.
