It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

I think you're confusing "selling academy lads" - a fine process that I have no problem with - with the bizarre buyback clauses that we have triggered exactly once with angelino and have missed out on by NOT triggering and missing out on profit in the cases of Pedro Porro, Lavia, Rogers, Tosin and soon to be Delap when he moves to a bigger team. These clauses serve no purpose - we are not bringing these players back on the buyback clauses, and they very quickly expire as the players move to another club without us reaping the rewards.
They don't hurt do they. And one daybwe will bring one back, and he will be phenomenal, and the whole approach will have paid off. That's how these things work.

they do hurt - a buyback clause lowers the initial price. they don't come for free. We sold lavia for 12m with a buyback clause for 40. We'd have sold him for me without the clause.

Best coach in history is still playing a 63 year old mobility scooter riding Gundogan ffs.

Pep is colossal but he doesn’t get everything right all the time.

The same gundogan that every single blue was delighted we were signing?

Not necessarily.

I agree Alvarez would score more as he’s a much more natural finisher but Macatee is more intelligent and would get more assists / create more chances imo.

All of a sudden, that 82m for alvarez with bonuses included doesnt seem so great given our season and the fact it may cost 70m to bring in a potential replacement in January

Says basic economics? Why on earth would a team just allow you to put a buyback clause for free? Every clause in the deal that's in your favor has a monetary value

I stand by that says who. Whataboutery never proved anything. Sensible that a sell-on might reduce an upfront fee. Not always with buy-backs or first refusals. It is nonsense to pretend to know otherwise.

I was one who was delighted and have been proven very wrong.

Gundogan has gone downhill faster than Kerry Katona walking past a Bargain Booze.

Our defense and midfield remain a worry. Kyle is leaving and Khusanov is coming in. That's still the same number of players. We wanted both Khusanov and Reis before Kyle was leaving, so what about now? We need the 2 of them and a defensive midfielder ASAP, it's a must.

I think the academy is just there to make money for the club

You could argue it, but it’s baseless. It’s a hope.

He averaged a goal every 10 games for Sheff Utd in the PL.

Alvarez had proven he could score regularly in the Argentine league and the Copa Libetadores.
Agree with your general argument, but maybe comparing the Sheff attack and their chance creation to what he could achieve surrounded by rest of our team is a bit of an unfair comparison (?).
