Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Something that worried me last night was 70
mins in and our players were blowing out of their arses. No excuses about too many games since Xmas either. Found it very strange.

Its never as bad as it seems and as good as it should be , its clear after 4 tough seasons and some aging , regular if not chronic injury to some parts of a number of players bodies the team as a whole has lost some of its luster and the current squad will never get it back , a bit like attempting to reverse dementia with the same band aid , you might slow the regression but you end up with the same result.

I didn't think we would go into January's transfer window looking to add 3 maybe 4 long term players who when settled in would add more pace and hopefully guile and positive results driven football that are less injury prone than what we have currently but I could be proven wrong we shall see.

It hasn't been Peps finest year either but given the circumstances we found ourselves in I cannot to be too critical of his gameday management of the team and his selection albeit its obvious some players should not have had as much game time as they have ala Ilkay to name one.

What is telling but not so surprising is that Pep has now said we should have been more active in the summer window but given the payments for the likes of Phillips and Nunes its clear Pep underestimated the strength of the squad given the past 4 years results and our trophy haul.
Yeah, the last four seasons have been so good, and superior to anything other teams could muster that a fifth was perhaps a season too far!!

I think it was Joe Mercer who said it is a mistake to change a winning team. Now, I know the game has moved on with bigger squads and managing fitness etc but it has bugged me since Pep took over that he never follows this old adage. O'Reilly, McAtee, Grealish and Doku should have been involved (If not from the start, then much earlier) last night.

Instead we get the usual pensioners parade and a disinterested Haaland. (Who I can understand being pissed off by the way as no f**ker passes to him)

Incredibly I've seen some muppets on here blaming McAtee for the loss. If he'd been on earlier and bedded in, he puts that chance away. What can you expect the kid to do in 10 minutes?

Don't get me wrong, I think Pep is a great manager but he could learn a thing or two from the Joe Mercer playbook.

Been saying this for ages.
We don’t fucking tackle!!!!
We’re far too soft.
Gone from (allegedly) being the masters of the dark arts to the softest c###s in the league.
Wtf is going on?
If I didn’t know better I would say it looks deliberate….
Don't know about deliberate mate ;-) but I've seen some half hearted attempts at tackles and some have pulled out of 50/50 tackles ( they've been named in other post match threads ) this season.
I agree with you're other point though Blue.

For me the biggest problem is the desire to get back behind the ball from the midfield. Pep was all about if you don’t run you don’t play, well that has changed the desire to get back has gone. Phil, Doku, Savinho, I feel for the poor CM they just ain’t got the legs to do it the others have no excuse. We look like a PSG team who had Messi, Neymar and Mbappe m. We can call the defence all we want but it needs sorting and some either need a rocket or shipping on as it is not acceptable and not what City are about or was about. Once you give one the license it seems to creep in and it has not only crept in but it’s started to rot. I watched Kevin yesterday probably complete more sprints than Phil has all season.
I totally agree. Kevin was still pressing in injury time. We lost a lot of that when Alvarez left. Foden does it half heartedly.

We look so much better going forwards just have to be clinical. OOP wise, nothing will change until new signings are here.
The proposed new signings, the defensive ones, are 19 and 20 years old. They won't go straight into the team. We need a quality DM desperately who slots straight in.

Our ability to see out games is becoming ridiculous now , taking off Kova for Gundo was a big mistake imo , someone like grealish or doku shoudve replaced Bernardo who has ghosted for most of the season , god knows how he keep getting a start
Was Kova on a booking?

I’m not saying deliberate by the players, as in they’re not trying, maybe though it’s Pep telling them not to go to ground and rather funnel play into certain areas.
Whatever it is I just fucking wish we would put some serious tackles in..

We seriously lack on field leaders. When Wissa scores, there’s not long left in the game, someone needed to tell everyone what to do, Erling, take it in the corner and keep it there, Stefan don’t leave the pitch unlesss you’ve got a yellow for time-wasting, Jack (should have been on), win free-kicks for fun!
I agree with this.

I had a bad day, and knee-jerked.

My wife and I lost our IVF baby to miscarriage that morning - so I snapped and reacted.

I’m not normally venomous. And I’m sorry.
Sorry to hear that Blue.I knee-jerked after the Derby loss and I regretted it but after the passing of Tony Book I just put things in a different perspective.
And another thing , as Pep says, " it happens". It still hurts but tomorrow is a new day.

Don't worry about when I joined, seems to be a weird theme on here for top blue points of when you joined an internet forum. I watched us in the 90s mate, I don't need educating and we are no longer that shower of a side. We always have the typical City mentality, that will never leave us, that doesn't make things like last night acceptable. My post was towards people sugar coating it saying not a bad point there. On paper it isn't. In reality it was a horror show way not get the 3 points.
Ok, fair enough, I go back to 80s and many on here watched city in the 60s and 70s. Personally because of that experience I find it hard to call things unacceptable. Annoyed, embarrassed, frustrated definitely, I prefer to enjoy rags, tarquins and rags wallowing in that kind of mindset. But that’s just me, you deal with it however you wish to!
