RIP Denis Law

Before my time in his first spell at City, though I did see him scoring twice for the other lot against us (we won 3-2 so I can forgive that). Fondly remember him scoring twice again for City against Oxford at the Manor.

Father knew him, and I met him in Ken Barnes’ office at Maine Road. A thoroughly decent man and an absolute gentleman regarding my father (in front of his young son). Literally changed my view of my father to hear Denis talk about him and it is a trait I have tried to replicate with the family of others.

One word: CLASS.

RIP Denis.

What a sad week for us Blues. I remember as a young lad standing on the old Platt Lane terraces when he made his home debut for us against West Ham on 1960. He engaged in fisticuffs with John Bond. Both got a telling off from the ref and told to get on with the game. Nowadays they would both had a straight red. Denis was a great player, and when he returned to us from the dark side in the 1970's he was welcomed back with open arms by the vast majority of us Blues. I came across him and his family when on holiday in Greece in the early 1980's and he was such a gentleman. RIP Denis Law - it was a privilege to have seen you play, in no matter what colour of shirt.
