If he puts a 10% tariff on Rolls-Royces, it's the US buyers who will be paying it. Not Rolls-Royce.

Of course, some may decide to buy an American car instead, but as international trade is beneficial (see the Law of Comparative Advantage) it's what Sir Humphrey would call a brave policy.

Such policies encourage inefficient domestic industries by protecting them but do long-term damage to industrial efficiency as it enables the production of shit products as there is less external competition.

Don’t know if this is true but spoke to a chef today, who has cooked for royalty and VIPs such as Trump. Apparently the Mango Mussolini is only partial to hot dogs especially Macdonalds, which were prominent in the White House during his last tenure there. The chef wasn’t complaining as he was getting paid very well to cook up hotdogs.
