Stones back but looks like Doku is now injured. Again
I don't think it's a good idea to play Stones given that he has been out for so long. I think we will have to get used to Doku missing games. He is going to be one of those players prone to torn muscle fibres because of his explosive movement.Stones kova midfield might be able to do the job. I know he hasn’t played much. Rather have it than a Gundo/kova pair.
Agree on Doku. Such a shame he can’t stay fit. Marmoush is badly needed.I don't think it's a good idea to play Stones given that he has been out for so long. Gundogan II had his best game for us at Ipswich but I hope Kovacic, Foden and KDB will be our midfield with Bernardo, Haaland and Savinho as our front 3.
Marmoush? I only heard about him this season when we were linked with him. Surely this Summer it was too soon to know that 2023-24 wasn't a flash in the pan.Marmoush isn't badly needed especially with Bobb's return, Savinho clicking in to gear and with McAtee showing glimpses (same to some extent with Cole Palmer during his City career). The Summer with that transfer would have made more sense.
Midfield has to be handled in the summer rather than rushing in this window as well. The issue is whether we would end up with a repeat of previous mistakes.Marmoush? I am excited by Bobb too. Potentially they are similar but you can't have too many talents like these players. We also don't know how long it will take Bobb.
My main fear is that Kovacic will get injured. He might not be a Rodri, but he is hugely important as the best central midfielder we have at the moment. If Stones could overcome his foot injury, that would be a huge boost.
I don't think City made a mistake re the midfield. Rodri got injured, then Kovacic and Stones. That coincides with ageing midfielders like KDB, Gundogan and Walker. But you can't sell KDB and Walker etc before their contracts are up or before they decide to leave. We were just vulnerable to an injury crisis given the age profile of our team.Midfield has to be handled in the summer rather than rushing in this window as well. I disagree with Palmer he probably made up his mind during the treble season to leave.I don't think City made a mistake re the midfield. Rodri got injured, then Kovacic and Stones. Where I think we went wrong was in letting top class young players go like Cole Palmer. And signing players like Nunes who have struggled. He has looked better this season to be fair apart from the odd moment!
I know it’s been done to death but not sure why we wouldn’t let him have a season away on loan? Could’ve gone out and ripped it up then come back and compete for a first team place? Anyway, fair fucks to him. He’s done well for himself so far at Chelsea.I heard he wanted more game time and his preference was to leave on loan. We said either stay with the squad or get sold.
Fucking great
Fucking great
Perhaps but we didn't play him. That's Pep's blind spot. He doesn't think about squad development, he just manages for the current season.I disagree with Palmer he probably made up his mind during the treble season to leave.
Palmer clearly wanted to an automatic starter for City. Pep was unable to guarantee that. Given the choices available at the time, it was hard to disagree with Pep at that point. To disrupt a treble winning team by bringing in a relatively untried junior would have been a major call.Perhaps but we didn't play him. That's Pep's blind spot. Good post, 100% agree.Palmer clearly wanted to an automatic starter for City. Pep was unable to guarantee that. OK with hindsight, we would have decided otherwise given the subsequent relative decline of Bernardo and Grealish.
Foden stayed and fought for his place in the team, Palmer did not. Maybe, as a United fan, Palmer didn't fancy doing the same?
City won four League titles in a row. No team has ever done that before. Herbert Chapman's Huddersfield and Arsenal, Matt Busby's United, Stan Cullis's Wolves, Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley's Liverpool, Arsene Wenger's Arsenal, and Alex Ferguson's United all came up short.
The reason for that is it is bloody difficult. OK teams in Italy (Juventus), France (PSG), Germany (Bayern), and Benfica/Porto (Portugal) have had repeated success but their leagues lack the depth of the top division in England.
City clearly are overdue for a rebuild. I would certainly like to see Pep oversee at least the initial stages of that rebuild.
