Defensive midfielder

Have we linked with any DM lately. It’s amazing how I couldn’t even find a single transfer rumour regarding a DM.

I was thinking that this morning. Keep seeing tweets saying "we're looking at midfield signings" but we haven't even had a made up rumour about one recently besides Luiz, and I'm convinced we're not in for him. Hopefully there's something going on completely under radar but we're perilously close to the end of the window.
 
If our policy is to get young players maybe this guy but who knows…

I think we’re kidding ourselves if we think Pep is suddenly going to rip up his play book and bring in energetic box to box midfielders.

He’ll want someone closer to Busquets/Rodri/Lahm for defensive midfield - always has, always will.

I’d love to see a couple of lightning quick midfielders who are mobile, can break up play and get up and down the pitch. But just can’t see it happening under Pep.

He’s admitted in countless press conferences that there are some teams who are “better than us at the transitions”.

The problem is, it’s not just a few teams anymore. It’s nearly everyone. Football has evolved and everyone has identified our kryptonite.
 
I would want us to try to get Tonali. Beast in terms of aggression, running power, stamina and duels. Maybe not as technical as Bruno G or as high of a ceiling as Baleba, but surely NEwcastle would rather sell Tonali than Bruno. Also, I don't think we need a technical genius next to Rodri. We have a lot of technical attackers + rodri, we need someone with stamina and aggression. Ofc would be happy with Bruno or Baleba, but if we are considering the likes of Stiller, Hjulmand, Ederson, Luiz etc. I would rather pay 20-30m extra and go for Tonali.

Of course it would highly depend on whether newcastle needs to sell.

I hope we can find the likes of Baleba ourselves rather than having to pay the middle man. Our purchases so far suggest we are trying.
 
For me a defensive midfielder is only half the issue
We need some players in midfield who are fast and energetic
Kev, kovacic, gundogan and bernado are just too slow to cover the ground

We need rebuild.
 
We need to stop looking at the Premier league for midfielders. They’re usually either going to be not good enough (Nunes), too expensive (Bruno Guimaraes) or paying a huge premium for one good season (Caicedo, Baleba). Plus half of them don’t have Champs league experience.

If Brighton etc can find these gems, we should be able too as well.
