Southport attacker pleads guilty to murdering three girls | Sentenced to 52 years in prison

In his police mugshot it looks like he is doing something with his mouth to make himself look meaner his mouth looks normal in school photos of him
I thought they only accepted neutral expressions in police mugshots as with passports

The media haven't helped. Supporting the Racists narrative by using a photograph of the killer portraying the look of a 'savage'.
To be honest, I imagine that's exactly how he was seen by the women and children who were attacked or killed.
That's just simply how he looks.

It will look even better when his cell mates reconstruct his face

Trouble is if he won't "pose" as requested and wants this image to be how he is recognised.

I think (as they say) a picture paints a thousand words.

True.

A despicable human being who should pay for his actions with the most severe punishment the courts can give him.

Can't see him lasting long In jail. Unless the judge sections him like the one involved in the Nottingham attacks.

.... but the photograph publicly displayed at the time he was charged showed and innocent youngster.... how we can all be misled eh?
I don't know what the guidelines are on that. Maybe they aren't allowed to release the mugshot before the trial and it can only be released afterwards or in this case after he pleaded guilty? I don't recall any murder suspect in this country ever having their mugshot released before the trial, so with regards to this case the only photos available were old ones. Nothing misleading about that IMO. After all, the severity of the crime speaks for itself, although his mugshot definitely adds to the horror of what happened.

Edit: Here you go mate:

Specifically in respect of images, the police, as the legal copyright owner, are responsible for releasing an offender’s custody photograph. The image may be released upon a guilty verdict unless there is a court order or legitimate policing purpose preventing their identification. Images may be released as soon as possible after the verdict to allow the media to publish them contemporaneously, i.e., in their next available edition or broadcast. The image can be released again upon sentence if necessary.

I’m really hoping something like this happens. He’s been at Belmarsh, which Brunt said is one of the most secure in the country for his sake. He needs to be seriously hurt. His eyes taken, something extreme and life changing

I’ll be a very happy man should that news ever break

It will. Eventually, someone will get to him

If he has already put in a guilty plea, why is all this still taking place today? Isn't it just dragging stuff up for the family and putting them through hell again? Can they not just go straight to sentencing him?

Well they have well and truly messed up there then as this picture was released before any verdict was released and before he changed his plea.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up sectioned eventually but I don't think he is currently mentally ill as such.
I think he is in touch with "reality" but has an incredibly horrific capacity for violence.

I posted about this earlier-its probably the best they could get in custody. Using force to take a photo, whilst legal, doesnt make a great picture.

Does it have to be an official photo? Could they not use a still from the recording of one of the interviews if the accused won’t cooperate?

hmm thats an interesting one-prob not good enough quality, even if all interviews are recorded-which when I was still there they weren't videoed-just audio.

Identification comes under Code D of PACE -you can use alternative means to produce an identification parade (we used to go to the local shopping arcade and offer kids a tenner to stand with the accused next to the snooker table-the one that wasn't smiling was usually picked out...but things have improved). But it has been known to use footage of a suspect moving around custody-that is def covered in PACE.

Just remembered of course that he was a juvenile when first detained-there's simply no way police would use force to take a photo of a juvenile.

**they will then have their fingerprints and photo taken again when they are remanded in prison by prison staff-not sure under what powers they use..and it may be the photo released is of that image-he's certainly dressed in a sweatshirt that a prison or police custody would've given him**
