That's mainly because for a number of windows rather than look for top quality to play alongside him we have bought players who can 'do a job if Rodri is rested'. Now we are stuck with Kovacic, Gundogan, Nunes and Phillips all not good enough to be a regular starter.

When it comes to full backs and DMs the club is absolutely clueless these days

We had 2 at the start of the season.
Maybe not to our standard in the long term but have to be better than shoe horning Nunes into an unfamiliar role. One of Couto/ Kabore or Akanji have to be better than an ageing Walker or Nunes.

Hindsight, of course, but I think we would have been far better letting Bernardo and Walker go, especially as they seemed to want that
We could have tempted Alvarez with Bernardo's game time and just not sent Kabore and Couto out on loan.

If they weren't serious about them who were they serious about? If they were serious about a midfielder surely they would have tried to sign him by now

That's mainly because for a number of windows rather than look for top quality to play alongside him we have bought players who can 'do a job if Rodri is rested'. Now we are stuck with Kovacic, Gundogan, Nunes and Phillips all not good enough to be a regular starter.

Some of this lot can't even "do a job." To me, that means be effective when they play from time to time. Meaning they are average to good but not good to great players.

I'd be pleased with an average to good showing from our midfield lately.

Yeah just saw it.
What a shame and what the hell our scouts doing if the best they can come up with is a Euro winning Spanish midfielder or a 25 year old Brazilian playing for a team trying to win the Italian league.

What’s next by them - Pedri or Kimmich or someone else we already know and is unattainable
